Some of them are. And some of them aren't. Just like alt.country. You're insinuating they're all deemed as cool simply because they're described as garage? If that's the case, I agree, that's pretty silly. But sillier things have/do happen.

It appears XM 54 "Lucy" will be "classic alternative hits." Presumably Fred (44) will then become (more) "album/deep classic alternative." Ethel (47) will remain regular alternative, excluding the "hard" (crap) alternative that remains on Squizz (48). XMU (43) will continue to be cool indie/college stuff. The new Fungus (53) will be punk, ska, surf, industrial and the like. Looks like Ethel will become less mainstream and more like the older stuff from XMU, and Lucy will have all the "hits" from Fred and Ethel.
