stories like these make it hard for me to feel bad for what is happening to the record labels.

Great reading.  Very informative….and depressing.

While I won't say the record companies are out to screw the artists, they are clearly only looking out for #1 (themselves).  The onus really is on the artist to fully understand what they are being asked to sign.
If no one has figured it out by now, Record Labels are nothing more than an high-interest rate credit card. They'll give you a nice advance up front, but you won't be seeing a dime from album sales for awhile.
Only way to make money is to tour, tour, tour!!

I actually thought bands we're making less on their recordings. Of course a band that makes like 200 copies of an album isn't going to make money. The actual rates they are getting for their music plays is surprisingly high.  I thought bands only made $1 on their cds.
