Does anyone go to shows here often? What time does the headliner usually come on?
Specifically, when does Mr. Malkmus come on tomorrow night?

opener at 8 all the time if doors are at 7
headliner usually comes on at 9 or 9:15. No later than that.

i find it interesting that shows sell out at the nine thirty club and not rams head . . . meaning, "band x plays 930, sells out, band x plays rams head on same tour, does not sell out." does that say something?

Well, Rams Head Live does fit a lot more people than the 930 club.
However, you're right, if RHL and 930 had the same exact capacity, 930 would sell out more.
I think the problem is that RHL books so few of the type of bands that you expect to see at 930 that most people don't even really consider going to RHL. Hell, I live in Baltimore and I've been there one time.

I've lived in DC for a decade and have never been to RHL. There are very very few bands that would convince me to drive 40 minutes to see them, but Malkmus is one of those fellas.

And push times one hour back for a Friday/Saturday night, right? (what I've experienced)
It is bigger. People are pretty nice there, but the patrons are a little more rowdy and drunk.
Nice space, the sound is pretty loud and the bar is like being at a sports bar, and the food like Camden Yards. That said, I haven't been since Seth took over - however he is doing just the booking? Either way it's nice enough, safe, (except be a little weary walking to the further away parking garages - drunks and homeless try to deter you). The booking has gotten even better since Seth took over. I wish I could go to half the shows there since there is more space there are tons of places to find away from the crowd if there is one.

It's just as close to my home as the 930 but my opinion is that there is actually less good space at Ram's Head. May or may not actually be true, but that is my perspective and that's the reason why I would always choose the 930 over RHL.
Plus you are pretty much forced to pay for parking there, unlike the 930.

if the sound is good, the beer cold, and not overly packed… that's about all I care about.

Yep, I agree. Also agree w/ the Stone. Sometimes the extra space and lines of the buildings create a couple of pockets so the sound is not a refined or louder (I'm not an expert w/ the terms) alas, it could be worse so it's decent enough and if I was in B'more I'd go more often, but always probably prefer 930 for the details and grit.

I like the cheaper ticket prices at RHL compared to DC prices.

even set times are the same? One time pre-Seth B.C., the opener went on at 9; headliner 10. Things may have changed. (not challenging finding info:))

if the door time is 8, then the opener will be 9.
i've been to about 15 shows there and have yet to go to a show with door time of 8 :)
it's always 7 door time, 8 opener and 9 (or 9:15) headliner.

I find on the floor the sound is a bit of a bummer if you are back a bit as the Stage Left flown stack is blocked by the balcony. And the stacks are so high they had to add those stage speakers for there. And upstairs, bummer if you are on the balcony by that blocked stack, that can be quite loud.
It is weirdly laid out, you can tell that it was first just a party bar then converted to a venue, the whole first floor bar space is pretty off to the side and blocking so while it can count towards # of people in, those people won't be too happy seeing the show from so far over.

I'm assuming it will be 50% full tonight, if that…
There's not one ticket on a scalper site, stubhubb, or CL.
