your spouse/partner/significant other critiques your music

Anybody else have someone special who is not quite the music geek you are, or just simply hears it differently than you do? This is the thread to post their comments or your shared stories on.
For example, I played the new Tom Waits album at home for the first time last night. I was a Waits fan back in the 80's and early 90's, but my interest piqued about the time of Rain Dogs. To me his music has grown increasingly grating and distant. The new one, however, does have some good parts and is his best since Rain Dogs.
So midway through the second song, my sweetie proclaims "This music SUCKS." and midway through the album, "You will never play this album again in this house." (I guess it's going to have to be a long car ride sort of album, haha).
Then again, I don't get her love for Tupac or Steely Dan.

when she's feeling generous, my sweetie has a really nice way of saying "this is cool/interesting/new/etc, but maybe we could listen to something else?" otherwise, she's pretty good at giving a reason why she doesn't music - too aggressive, too repetitive, doesn't like the lyrics, etc. that has helped minimize the amount of un-compatible music i blast through the stereo when she's around.

I've actually transformed my partner over the past seven years into an admirable music lover. She loves going to shows, hearing new albums, etc.
However, anything loud or what she considers grating doesn't fly.

My wife can't stand somethings that I love (Deerhoof, Jesus Lizard, etc.), so those kinds of things are typically "at work, on a jog, or in the car" choices.
However, I never fail to get a kick out of hearing some of the tunes she has added to her iPod: Joanna Newsom's first album, Neutral Milk Hotel and Be Your Own Pet (which she LOVES).

same here. music is one of the few things i bring to the relationship. i'm in charge of finding new music, getting tickets to shows, etc. she does all the rest. seems fair, right?
ditto on the loud/grating thing. parallel lives…

Big Star - Boring
Tom Petty - Boring
Tom Waits - 70s Stuff - Boring. . . Newer stuff - Too weird
Don't even get started on Yo La Tengo or Sonic Youth, or the noisier side of VU (though she likes Candy Says) or bands of that ilk or nearly punky (loves reggae hates the Clash . . . the Clash got me into Reggae!)
I can't stand that the GF can listen to Sublime every day of the week, multiple times a day and happily sing along to Garden Grove every single time, or keep her ipod's playlist cycling through time and again until I have to say "haven't we heard that Devotchka song like eight times?"
To be fair, she sings and likes music that she can sing along to. . . so then there's that too. . .

My lady has impeccable taste (ie likes all the shit I like and vise versa) and never gets on my case about any of this kind of stuff. I think she's the coolest person in the whole world and she thinks I'm the coolest person in the whole world. This makes for blissful times.
She can rock out to Black Sabbath or nerd out to An Evening of Contemporary Sitar Music.
She is the most amazing person. Beautiful in every way imaginable.

My wife won't go with me to many shows. Every once in a while I'll drag her to one….with mixed results.
Last spring she reluctantly attended the Scream/Off! show with me and decided she actually liked Off!. Definitely didn't see that one coming.

Did you ever see "Be Kind, Rewind?" Why don't you recreate the entire "Wall" experience with various members of the 9:30 club message board? It will be a LOT cheaper.
I'll nominate myself as the flying pig.
