Well, except for that huge pole/barrier in the middle of the room.

from the Cafe Saint-Ex Gate 54 Schedule
Monday, January 5: DJ Baby Dumplin and DJ Chowchow play all things twangy (the good stuff that is). Also trivia, scrabble and games.
Tuesday, January 6: "Muck" with DJ Luv. Roots, rockabilly and jump blues. Magic tricks.
and yes i realize that these happened in the past, but the schedule hasn't been updated past 1/15

Thanks alot Kosmo.
I actually saw that myself this morning, and was disappointed that it was in the past.
Thanks to SP for starting the thread, and reminding us all of the Cafe Saint-Ex option, even if it is plagued by the "bridge and tunnel" people, whoever that are.

rhett have you been to any of the '52 pickup organized Bop n' Bowls in Falls Church? the lineup is usually pretty twangy and they have a dj between bands. i went once and had a fun time, have been meaning to go back but the events seem to happen when other madness is occuring

That would require driving somewhere@!
Yes, guy i work with has mentioned it a number of times. Haven't taken him up on it yet; might require hanging out with a 50something cigar chomping guy i work with…

If you go on Sunday nights you'll hear metal. Yeh, the late 70's early/80's variety.
Remember, the 80's are 20 years behind us.

FYI, there will be an Air CD Release party at Saint-Ex on Jan. 21st. I've never been there, but they do occasionally have intriguing DJ sets.
Don't you remember that little crow's nest seat up top of that pole?!? There was usually a staffer up there videotaping it, and they simulcast that on these cheapy little t.v.s. Aaaah, I remember that so well.
Rhett, you can borrow my Escalade for the drive out to Bop n' Bowl.

Yep - that's what I'm talking about. I'll bet Seth has quite the video library of classic shows at home.

Originally posted by Skeeter:That was just a live video feed. Most shows weren't recorded, and if they were, it was at the band's request–they paid 50 bux for the 3/4 inch tape and it was given to them at the end of the night. Everybody always thinks there's this mythical library of great performances from the old 9:30, but there's really not. And it's a damn shame.

I walked in on Sunday and walked right out, it was far too crowded.

Yes, it's not worth waiting for a couch. Have you checked out Cafe Love/Love Cafe? I prefer that place.
thumbs up to that place thirsty, and they are open until midnight!
