Melody Records Closing Shop After 34 Years in Dupont Circle
I never thought this shop was anything special.
Still sucks to see a local family run business go under though. Especially a record store.

I have never stepped foot in the place but planned to since I have resorted to being a vinyl-only consumer. Really sad to hear about this. They were kind of a landmark for me in that area.
Bummer.
No worries. Some other chain retail clothing store for clones or overpriced fast food place will step in and fill the space.
That's too bad - I usually stopped in while my better half was in The Loft.
Usually had some cool free posters by the door or promo items on the counter.
And they always had Tuesday's releases available on Sunday.

I've purchased a few things in there over the years. Most recently, a couple of Record Store Day offerings by Sea Wolf and Nada Surf.
i love this whole, "i went there sometimes" and "i bought a few things over the years" you guys have going on in here. maybe if people bought more shit from the place, they'd still be around. if people stop going to the club, it would shut down too.

right, and then we'd have a bunch of posts about how we all used to go there when they booked "good" music, and about how we bought $8 yuenglings ;D
i love the "i love this whole X thing you guys have going on in here" thing you have going on in here.

umm, you can't buy what the club offers for less money on Amazon and you certainly can't download it from Itunes.
not yet you can't . . . but when you can, watch out seth. you think people are bitching now about ticket fees and prices? just wait until people can download a virtual concert experience right into their brain . . . like in total recall. just you wait. people will be screaming at the box office, "pay what you want, pay what you want!"

Walkie needs a three-dicked man to be there. ::)

"you got the new radiohead vinyl boxset, that has 1000 mini lps, each playing 1 second of 1 song?"
Melody is overpriced but on occasion over the years I'd find deals. They have a decent vinyl selection, and I bought the reissue of the first Queens of the Stone Age LP for 12 bucks the other day.
I went into the store last night about 5 min before 8 pm. After I got in, this guy told me they were about to close in a few minutes, meaning the store was closed. I wanted to buy something before it goes out of business, but it seemed they didn't want my money, so I left…

Post fail.

And that pretty well describes the Melody experience over many years. That and the records/CDs that were always priced 30% higher than any other store. I tried to give them a chance a few times over the years and always came out wondering how they stayed in business.
Thing about melody is for the discerning buyer they had some great selection.. certainly the best world music selection of any record store- for its size- I can remember.. the Brazilian or French stuff you could find was dope.. also a great jazz section…
