just to be clear, he was not pardoned, his sentence was "commuted" and while he will be released, this conviction remains on his record.
forte's arrest, trial and sentence were shaky at best and due to a ridiculous law, he was forced to serve 14 years for a first offense non-violent crime. He has served half of that already.
I dont currently have a link, but i suggest anyone (manimtired) who likes to judge, read up on this as its quite interesting, as there is more to it and there are many other people falling trap to stupid laws that do not give a judge discretion to sentence appropriately.

once, while moving into an apartment in Boston, we were putting plates in our new kitchen cabinets, only to find about 1/2 lb of mushrooms. (and not the cooking kind!)
another time a friend from Montreal had his bag accidentally picked up by another passenger, that passenger found almost 5lbs of marijuana, turned it into the police, they found out who it belonged to and arrested him. He was convicted quite easily, despite no one ever actually witnessing him with the suitcase.
the likelihood of him not knowing there was cocaine in it is slimmy slimmers, but Forte was not a thug drug dealer, though he was a DJ/Promoter in NYC so i'm sure he knew one or two.
