Lolla stream & commentary thread

pretty cool of lolla to stream the headliners - most festivals won't, for fear of depressing future ticket sales.  not really a concern for lolla i suppose.  so, who's going to watch what?  i'm all over NIN and QOTSA… another wild and crazy friday night at casa de sweetcell.

Lollapalooza 2013 Live-Stream Schedule: Watch Nine Inch Nails, the Cure, and More

Tickets for this year's Lollapalooza are sold out, but that doesn't mean you have to miss some of the festival's 30 Must-See Bands. Organizers will be live-streaming several performances from Chicago's Grant Park this weekend (August 2 to 4), including sets by the newly revitalized Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, the Cure, Vampire Weekend, the National, Mumford & Sons, the Killers, and Crystal Castles, among others. Sure, it's a small sampling of the event's massive lineup, but at least it settles some of those Wrenching Set Time Conflicts, right?

The webcast will be hosted through Lollapalooza's official YouTube page. Watch the official announcement video above and find the full schedule below (CDT). And be sure to revisit past Lolla rosters by reading SPIN's list of The Five Best (And Five Worst) Lollapalooza Lineups Ever.

He meant Queens Of The Stone Age.
This is a pretty amazing run of bands you could see on Friday:

Smith Westerns
Father John Misty
Crystal Castles
Imagine Dragons
Hot Chip
New Order
Lana Del Rey
Funny…there isn't a whole lot on day 2 that catches my eye, but conflicts galore for day 1 and 3. That's the frustrating thing about festivals.
I'm super excited to test out my Chromecast and surround sound for this broadcast.  These are types of events where it can make a huge difference to have a clear picture on an HDTV and digital audio through a good sound system.

isn't the limiting factor here the quality of the stream?  what if Lolla only broadcasts in 360p?  that would look like crap on a big screen…

I guess it is in the eye of the beholder.  Sunday appears to be the weakest day to me.

Correct. Just a matter of taste. I don't really know many of the bands performing on Saturday. I'm sure many of them are lovely.
actually, over the past few years most of the larger festivals have streamed. Bonnaroo was the only one that did this year so far (and the feed was nil to none). Sad there was no Coachella or Sasquatch and I don't think Newport did either…I figured it was lack of money.

1080p.

I think I should get to name your first beer for that comment.

Newport streamed.  Here is the streams if you want to see them:

I hate myself for enjoying this Imagine Dragon's set.  OK, not really - I don't hate myself at all.

Full Band Drum solo!
Thanks, funny, I just located the NPR Newport videos…

I'm in love with Band of Horses now…

Imagine Dragons wasn't that bad kinda liked better than the Killers except I think ID needs a little bit more grit…QOTSA feed sucked for me unfortunately, I gave up. Killers are all right but it's weird, I like lead singers to play guitars…Anyway, Band of Horses!!! (and I don't think it's billing priority…who knows how they select, I think Friday's line up was pretty good. Sat….I didn't log into watch until late so I missed the National…and Postal Service which I'm bummed about.)

Band of Horses hasn't put out anything good since the lead singer guy replaced all the members. He must be a real azzhole.  But a couple of years ago when they opened for MMJ at MPP I really didn't understand why they weren't headliners and MMJ were the openers.
I've been a long time BoH fan and have always enjoyed them live.  Their stream was incredibly clear for me too, which was awesome.

I watched most of Saturday too and thought Postal Service were the best.  I almost wish I had made the trip just for that.
