50 best rock bands right now

I thought that list was pretty weak. Makes me think that rock is pretty much dead.
Looks like a list of half average-great bands and half garbage spread throughout.

I didn't break down the numbers but that's the impression I got after a cursory read through it.
Wow, I can honestly say I only like two of the bands on that list and of those two only love one.

Then again, it's Spin Magazine. I don't think I've ever been their demographic.

definitely not endorsing their choices… interesting nonetheless to see deerhunter at #1, sleater-kinney at #2 and the arctic monkeys doing well..

surprised not to see the hives there

seems like they went for newer bands most of which I have never heard of as I only listen to music from 20 years ago or older… :D
Number, one two, and three . . . are not rock bands.
The rankings seem arbitrary.
Spin'd.

LOL

If Sleater-Kinney is not a rock band, rock is dead.
To be honest, Eagles of Death Metal should have been on there. And for as much as I love Queens of the Stone Age, I'd put them above QOTSA. That last EODM show was one of the most rockin' things I've seen in years. Also surprised about the Hives, who still put out good records and still put on one of the best "rock" shows.

And since when is Beach House a rock band?
Kinda odd not to have Foals in there.
Aren't Algiers the new TV on the Radio?

paramore above swans lol

Paramore in the top 10 at all is hilarious. Am I not mistaken that Paramore at this point is just the redheaded woman and a bunch of hired guns? Like hasn't every other member been thrown out by the label?

I always mix up Paramore with Evanescence.

What's the difference between Paramore being a woman with a bunch of hired guns and QOTSA being Josh Homme with a bunch of hired guns YOU FILTHY SEXIST
Why do you guys give a shit about what Spin publishes?

About 25 years ago, Spin was actually a pretty cool magazine…I think lists are always a topic for discussion because most are totally invalid and it's easy to pick them apart. If we all took the initiative to come up with our own lists, we probably couldn't even agree on the criteria of what constitutes a "rock" band anymore anyway.

Is QOTSA a bunch of hired guns at this point?
Bands on that list that I dig:
Liturgy, Screaming Females, Beach Slang, TV on the Radio, Baroness, Destruction Unit, Future Islands, Torche, the Body, Wolf Eyes, Inter Arma, Downtown Boys, Royal Headache, SUNN 0))), Chastity Belt, Swans, Deafheaven, Protomartyr, Deerhunter

19 bands… I did not think I was in their targeted demographic but I dig almost half of them.

I listen to way too many current "rock" bands to even start listing what I would think is missing from a "best" list.

Also, I hate the term "best" in regards to music.  There is NO best.
