Meanwhile, I am LOVING this ep:
HyunA – A'wesome ep

I like this so far….thanks for the recommendation and listing to her other stuff…roll deep!

now I can come to the table with a good reco for my young KPOP fans (sad times)

I did find this interesting foot note…She is also well known for her appearance in Psy's worldwide hit "Gangnam Style",

edit…
the visuals part of KPOP really disturbs me
There is an element of… they all look like skinny high school girls…who are just a little naughty with their super short shorts.

is it all music factory stuff or does an artist like HyunA actually write the songs?
or does she just show up for the vocal tracks and photo shoots….endless photo shoots, videos about photo shoots.

the imagery of KPOP (hardly differs from western corporate pop music for the last 60 years)

IMO seriously discredits this genre
I dont' get it…its like the Backstreet Boys but with Korean preteen females?? WTF is this?

And just to start this thread out right, let's all enjoy the greatest KPOP song ever: Gee by Girls Generation. Just look at them! God I wish we could embed YouTubes.

i can't imagine why this is popular with older married men.
You guys are over thinking this.. Just listen to them sweetly singing the la la la's and smile inside
But I really enjoy Girl's Generation's last full length "Lionheart".  Like a lot of k-pop it runs the gamut of bubblegum, ballads, etc.

And yes I have wondered myself about some of the imagery of k-pop and Oh My Girl and Red Velvet really do push the edge of that.  And plastic surgery is pretty much a given amongst k-pop stars. But, I tend to just listen to the music and certainly don't need to follow the stuff on social media
My beautiful thread!

For all of my lecherous ways, I come at (on?) KPOP purely from an audio perspective and never watch the videos. This is mostly because I don't have the patience to watch anything these days but there's also an element of, cmon dude that's tacky.

The other night I was on 270 driving home at like 1:00 am and this song came on.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xc_RH1PdZlY

The verses are good but nothing to blog about, but when that chorus took off, I damn near drove off the side of the highway. SO GOOD. Seriously, it was kinda frightening and I was thinking "jesus, get a grip" and continued on. Then like 45 seconds later AOA and I sang " ONE TWO THREE FOUR" and then I swerved across three lanes of traffic and took an exit I didn't even want to take.

That's the power of KPOP.
so every time this thread comes around, I get a little creeped out after I go to youtube and watch some of these videos and listen to some of these songs, that fall into the category of kpop or any other name it is called.

I am not sure why I get creeped out, but it makes me think of guys who are into the most shocking of perversion sex there is . . . the kind that actually gives you an immoral chill through your body if you listen to them explain what they like when it is just them and the partner/victim.
Man, you guys are really over-thinking this.

Pop music? Relying on sex appeal? Why that would never happen here!!!

I do conceed that groups like The Ronettes to The Runaways were all sexualized for a male audience
but it's so overt and constant and frankly hard to ignore

My young girls and I love listening to music and we've used spotify a bunch, but youtube has also been a part

But I watch a few of these vidieos….. and seriously I don't know how the web-filter hasn't tagged this as kiddie porn

and I can honestly say I enjoy the music tremednosly
bunch of pervs if you ask me…
I ignore it all. Because they're Asain.

just seems like its being marked to creepy old men and not teenage girls??

You've progressed beautifully in just over a year, my friend.
I am a conflicted guy, what can I say
Sometimes you just need to listen to Highteen's Boom Boom Clap and watch your day get exponentially better.

what I do understand is the pop, piness of it, the catch and the beat and how it gets you moving at first, though it really does becoming grating after a while, but what I don't understand is why this genre, why a bunch a japenese girls that you see at comic con prancing around like youthful . . . whatever the mind goes to.  there are sounds like this you can get from other places, no?

There have been girl groups in this country, but nothing surmounting to a whole craze of white American farm girls or similar, who play up the heights of barely legal sexual appeal, the only way our country's television and now internet can, singing the most bubblegum of bop dance appeal music.  They can't, because of the kids, I guess.  So then you have these groups, that are there from Japan, to fill the void.  Ok, I guess I get it.  Does the fact that you have to like manga, Japanese anime, comics, basically be a nerd have anything to do with why someone would like this form of music?  don't you hate it when someone asks you, why you like something, that you like.
you lost me  ::)
Yeah, that was one of walkonby's more incoherent posts.

But I'll see if I can parse some of your verbal mangling.

Yes, it can start to sound all the same. That's the way jazz felt to me before I started listening to it more closely. Also, the songs I post are usually all going to be bangers. There's plenty of great mid-tempo songs, even ballads. But if I'm trying to convert people or share the BEST songs, they're going to be thumpa-thumpa-thumpa shriekers.

I have no idea what question you're posing at the end of that first paragraph.

And yes, there are current girl groups in the western world, and I like a lot of them. The thing is, they're much more rooted in R&B and hip-hop and less in electronic/dance. So I think Fifth Harmony makes good pop music. And my #1 favorite album of 2016 was a 5 piece from Wales called Baby Queens. I hear a lot of KPOP influence in Grimes and I feel like Nicki Minaj was toying around with it. But I still believe some western artist or band is going to take this sound and just go massive.

And I can easily answer why I like it: it's great music. The best KPOP has great songs, strong and enjoyable melodies, super catchy choruses plus there's often 2 or even 3 of them, good production, and beautiful voices blended together. I have zero interest or experience with anything to do with anime, comic con, comics or My Pretty Pony.
my last question was simply asking that question I don't think people can really answer.  why do you like the music you like?  I, can not understand the appeal of kpop, and I wanted your true opinion of why you think you like it, compared to other genres of music?  for some reason, I thought one had to be obsessed with all things Japanese anime video gamers that go to comic cons, and the such, to appreciate kpop, for some reason.

relaxer answered actually, quite perfectly.
I've always loved the sound of women's voices singing together. HUGE fan of the Supremes, Shangri-Las, Marvelettes, Martha Reeves & Vandals, etc. And I loved a lot of the 90s retro-soul girl groups from the UK like All Saints, Girls Aloud, Sugababes, etc. If anything, KPOP was the most logical extension of something I'd always had inside me
