I feel like they are a band that I should love, but for some reason I only like them.

Hey, we're from D.C., right?? Can't we get some Congressional legislation going to ensure that a band/artist needs to be retired (in whatever definition the bipartisan committee can agree upon) for X-number of years before any comeback (again, assuming appropriate defining) can be done?
Make "Farewell Tour" and other designations Federally-controlled!

As long as Ozzy is exempt

This captures how I feel better than the original statement.
Except, I don't really feel like they are a band that I should love. I find them boring, and I find him boring, and their records too. They might be the band that I own the most of, while not liking any of it, because I felt like it was my fault I wasn't getting into it. What a world.
Smackie is the show you are referring to the one at Roundhay park in 82? Because I was also at that Farewell show…

That was the European leg of said tour, yes.
I think it's okay for people to change their minds. You could tell at the end of the documentary that he looked so sad! Okay, so maybe they should have said "hiatus" like Sleater-Kinney did, but who cares? Like them, don't like them. That's cool.
oh I like their music…was a great show at Virgin Fest! in my top 10 ever.
but I don't think they changed their mind.. I think this was the plan all along…

People un-retire all the time. Not just musicians and sports stars who are making potentially millions. Normal people. My Dad un-retired. Not because he needed money, because he was bored and missed doing what he was doing. I guess if an asshole wants to impugn bad motives to people, there's no way to dissuade them from believing that but there are literally 8 million reasons why James Murphy might have reformed the band. I don't know why. I would be highly suspect of assholes living in poorly kept-up 927 sq ft houses with children who have flies coming off them claiming absolute knowledge of why they are.

Both LCDSS and Sleater-Kinney have retired/gone on hiatus and reunited during Fugazi's hiatus (since 2003). Any others?

The hiatus/break-up? that bums me out the most is Comets on Fire. Their records were getting increasingly greater and greater and they put on an outrageous shows and then POOF, they were gone. Miss them so much.

Blur and Jane's Addiction both toured in the early 2000's with replacement members, then fully reunited in the late 2000's
Well, Jane's Addiction didn't fully reunite, as Eric Avery (who is the heart of that band) didn't rejoin and they've continued to have a revolving case in that spot since the early 90s. Just sayin'.
