my facial/head tattoo plans have nothing to do with the fact that i like the misfits.

i think it's funny that these posts are ending up here. most of them come from a website that i've been a regular member/reader of and contributor to since the mid 90's.

When I was 16 I got a little jailhouse-style misfits skull tattoo….Dot dot dot with a sewing pin wrapped in thread and dipped in india ink. I got it covered up maybe 5 years later by a guy named Jason who I think does or did work at Jinx Proof in G-Town.

This guy in the photos is pretty nuts.

I've heard that the suicide rate is quite high among those with facial tattoos.

Is this true, and if so, as a Psych major / body modification aficionado, care to comment thatguy? What are your plans for facial tattoos?

I remember one guy in DC years ago on the scene that had this Tattoo You type thing on his face. I never knew him but we had mutual friends - friends that I didn't know until after he hung himself. Obviously facial tattoos don't cause a person to off themselves, but I imagine that the type of person moved to do such a thing done feels pretty disenfranchised in the first place.

Down in Richmond there was a guy who got "Fuck the Police" tattooed on his face. Real big on his cheek. That was maybe the most fucked up tattoo I ever saw.

From a distance(the thumbnail pic) he looks less like a skull and more like a reject from CATS!.

how can you judge him as nuts? you know absolutely nothing about him other than his choice to tattoo his face. i know people with tattooed faces that are upstanding members of society. i know some that are criminals. if i showed you pictures of both together, i bet you wouldn't be able to tell which was which.

i have not seen any research connecting facial tattoos to suicide. i seriously doubt that there is a statistically significant correlation between the two, especially considering how small the population of people with facial tattoos is.

most of the people i know with facial tattoos are among the most confident, well adjusted, happy people i know. i think that my experience is probably skewed due to the circles i travel in, which tend to be more accepting of these kinds of things, but it's what i have observed. there are obviously people out motivated by attention seeking, or looking to totally shun the "normal" world, or any number of other less positive things, but i don't think they are in the majority.

it takes a great deal of courage and self confidence to permanently change your appearance in a way that cannot be hidden. these are not decisions taken lightly. i would guess that nobody on this board knows what it is like to draw attention always, to be unable to hide or blend in. it takes a very strong willed person to make such an irreversible change.

i am currently working on a design that involves both tattooing and scarification that will cover part of my head and face. when the time is right and the design is complete, i will have it done. i already have modifications that cannot be hidden (my lobes, hand and neck tattoos, scarification on my hands and face, etc), so i'm prepared for the consequences of my plans. i would much rather be true to myself and judged or shunned by others than to try to suppress what is a central part of my being in order to fit in.

how do eyelid tattoos work? does the needle hit your eyeball? that would certainly not be cool.

eyelid tattoos work just like any other tattoo. the ink is placed in between the layers of skin. the needles never touch the eyeball, unless the artist screws up.

Compared to other locations, how painful is a facial tattoo or an eyelid tattoo? I've got several in other locations and it felt different getting each one put on depending on where it was going. I don't have anything against facial tattoos (they're not for me, though) but I have to admit, every time I see someone with one, I immediately think "that MUST have hurt a lot." I actually have to force myself to think of something other than the pain factor if I'm going to notice anything about the artwork itself or the person wearing it.

So is it as painful as I am imagining? Or is my overall unhealthy fear of needles winning out? I've got a whole slew of tattoos but every time I need to get blood taken at the doctor I think I am going to die on the spot…

Is there such a thing as a nutsack tattoo? Or an anus one? Has anyone heard of this? Enquiring minds want to know.

every body is different, and everyone has different experiences with tattooing. in general, areas without much padding tend to be more sensitive. in my experience, tattoos over bones tend to have a weird vibrating effect that can be felt throughout the area being worked on. kinda fun, actually.

any skin can be tattooed. whether or not the ink stays in place is another question entirely.

a good friend of mine has the lipton tea logo tattooed on his scrotum.
