The no white pants after labor day is really an East Coast only thing.  In CA you can pull it off until probably Halloween, maybe even Thanksgiving with global warming.

But cargo shorts are universally banned, and for good reason.

When you have a middle aged guy gut and carry a lot of junk, cargo shorts are kind of a necessity.

Though I've always had a middle aged guy gut, even when I was running marathons.

Affirmative. I love cargo shorts. I need places to put all my garbage…keys, Fitbit, cell phone, earpods, etc. Middle age? check. Gut? check.

My legs are my best physical feature, so I try to show them off by wearing shorts. Have to impress the wife anyway I can.
