A thread about bands that you love

So if I "love" a band, but I don't own every single legal/illegal recording that means I don't really love them?

I was never a complete-ist
I love music and there is a long list of bands that I'm very well acquainted with
turns into quality not quantity, very few bands can really keep up the diversity and continue to kill it with each new release.
Probably an REM and Elvis Costello near-completist. Lots of 12" singles, rarities, etc.

I agree with mr side hutch… There are a few bands that I'd consider myself a completist, however, I know the quality of many of the later albums has fallen off, but I feel obligated to keep the spirit alive.

also, and please don't be senisvite about this mr. sally, but why do we care about your feelings on our favorite bands?

Edit: Wrong thread, but still wondering…

Additionally, Elliot Smith has one of your favorite songs ever, but you never considered exploring the remainder of his catalog?
I'm a voracious reader of books about rock music so I feel like there's lots of bands for which I know their histories through and through, such as:
Beatles
Grateful Dead
Bowie
Zeppelin
Stones
Queen
Sabbath
Nirvana
Metallica
Streisand
Ramones
Jesus and Mary Chain
Allmans
Aretha

All of those artists are ones that I've read at least three books about (except for JAMC and Aretha; only read two about them). And what happens is that I usually deep-dive into the artists' music while I'm reading the book so I ended up listening to everything by them with a critical ear.

I try to create threads, and spur discussions about music on here.  I never said anybody cares about my opinions on anything.  Why would anybody care about anything?   If my opinions entertain you, good; if they piss you off; good.

RE: Elliot Smith.  I started to get into his music around 2002, due to the Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack… During the next couple of years I bought Figure 8 and From a Basement on the Hill…  I do not know why I did not ever go back on his catalog.  To start liking an artist and then a year or so later they take their own life… One of these days I will go back to his older stuff, and the rest of the posthumous releases; i just have not yet.
For the record, I'm interested in everybody's opinions on bands. This is ostensibly a music chatboard so its fun to talk about music.
ha ha i did a search on Lush- they really fell apart at the end it seems- and ran into this oldie but goodie thread courtesy of killsally.. here goes my attempt to pick a few that come quickly to mind of bands i love that i think i could have a good conversation about with someone..bands that i sort of am a fanatic about…i'm not going to include jazz musicians who died 50 years ago or something..

joy division/new order
love and rockets
andres calamaro
bob dylan
luna
ween
guided by voices
the cure (this is a bit of a stretch maybe…cause i don't like the post-bloodflowers stuff)

i am sure i'm forgetting a few and might come back and add one or two..

some acts i used to be a fanatic.. like i was a smiths/moz fanatic until about 1996 or so and then not so much…the above are bands that i keep returning to..
I thought you only cared about, the dead.

I actually liked rereading this thread.  it was pointless and dumb, and boy could kill, sally get upset.

I asked this a few months back and the consensus was the shrug emoji.
He mutated again.
