Not everyone likes guided by Voices and that is ok…

But they do put on one of the best rock shows around…I think anyone would be hard pressed to say otherwise

I *love* that song about Black Girls. The rest of their catalog is tolerable at best.

I prefer Doug Gillard in Nada Surf and Bobby Bare Jr in Bobby Bare Jr.
I've listened to them sparingly, primarily because their discography is just too large to dive in for a newb. Who wants to shed some light on where to begin?

I have asked that very same question on this forum, long long ago, but damned if I can find it now!

Alien Lanes or Bee Thousand
Human Amusements at Hourly Rates is a nice best of collection that surfaced in 2003

My personal fave is Isolation Drills

They can be very sloppy in concert but I guess that's their shtick

Sweet! Its high time they put a fresh one out. They have been playing some of those songs live for 3-4 years.

Dean Wareham Vs. Cheval Sombre,

just wanna give you the heads up about my upcoming album, Dean Wareham Vs. Cheval Sombre, a collection of western dreampop I made with my friend Chris (aka Cheval Sombre). Chris and I took turns on lead vocals, Jason Quever produced at Palmetto Recording here in L.A. I play the electric guitars, backed by Britta Phillips, Anthony LaMarca, Jason Quever and Will Halsey. Some of these songs (e.g. "Wandering Star") are from old Hollywood movies, others are by songwriters like Bob Dylan and Stephen Merritt.

The record will officially be released October 26 but I am offering some special items and bundled discounts if you pre-order from my new website deanwareham.com, and you'll also receive early downloads of a couple of album tracks that we'll release early in September.

– signed, color vinyl LP (only making 300 of these and they will not be in stores). The colored vinyl edition comes with a special, square-shaped, lathe-cut, clear vinyl 7" single with special art – for a bonus track "Along the Santa Fe Trail"

Here's the track listing for the album:

    The Bend in the River
    Tomorrow is a Long Time
    Mountains of the Moon
    If I Could Only Fly
    Wayfaring Stranger
    Alberta
    Wand’rin’ Star
    Greensboro Woman
My Rifle, My Pony and Me
    Grand Canyon

Yours sincerely,

Dean

this was cool news too There are now over 20,000 items in the Joe Strummer Archive.

There has got to be some treasure in that archive.  I'd be very like Joe to make that free to all mankind…
