Hey BigYawn, Brendan Benson is from Detroit, not Britain

THe album by BB is One Mississippi and it's a great record. I got quite a nice autographed note of thanks on my copy. I personally thought Brendan Benson had a lot of potential and don't know what his new stuff is like, but he's just a guy trying to make it by playing music and writing songs. I still listen to One Mississippi and it holds its own, nearly 10 years later.

I think he grew up in Michigan and Louisiana.

As an adult, he lived in Berkeley for awhile, but I think he moved back to the Motor City.

Anyway, I've been a fan since I saw him open for the White Stripes at the Fillmore like four years ago. I've seen him a few times since then, and I think he's pretty good. His backing band, the Wellfed Boys was really solid, but I don't think he's touring with them anymore.

As for the new record, it's okay, but I was kind of disappointed. It's a little poppier than Lapalco, which is a classic.

i think i saw him open for the breeders at the 930 club back in 1997. anyone remember that? i think it was the same nite as a superchunk show at the black cat and i was going to go to that but then jonathan fire*eater was added to the 930 bill and was the deciding factor.

he was pretty good from what i remember. but i don't remember much.

No, but I did use it as an excuse to re-read one of the all-time greatest threads.

I probably look at their site once a week. And find something to laugh about a fairly high percentage of the time. I think Celeste only reads it if I send a link to her about something.

Not that it matters, but i didn't edit that review. And I can assure you it wouldn't have gone up if i had. I barely even have access to the internet since my laptop got fried. It pains me to see reviews like this however. Jab away at your leisure, we deserve it.

I think the real tragedy out of all of this is that this happens and steals all the attention away on the same day I change my user name to the hilariously delightful "Julian, faux celeb-porn CONNOISSEUR."

What sad times these are when bitter snipes at local music review sites divert our gaze from what's really important.
