Fiery Furnaces Friday

i'm not that into their albums…but fuck, they give great performances. something about how she barks out those lyrics non-stop for the entire set is sexy as hell. the drummer has this interesting style (sometimes he'll smack the cymbals from underneath…just all depends on how he's moving to the music) that's fun to watch.

and then the brother kinda directing the whole thing.

i'm there.
and sometimes they don't give great performances. two major things: 930 seemed too big a venue for them…and his keyboard sounded like it was on the brink of blowing out the sound system the entire night (lower the mids!).

i missed their non-stop sets from before too. oh well. drummer was still entertaining at least.
I thought the show was fantastic. The band was pretty tight live, and even though the keyboards and whatnot were so loud in the mix, I thought they sounded great. They definitely rank in the upper tier of new bands, in my opinion. Probably my favorite new act…and I'm wearing my pink t-shirt to prove it. I know that somewhere lulu is wearing hers…
i wore my t-shirt all day today baba, and thought of you as i did so……….it was nice to have an excuse……….
poor monkey……

your pics don't work…………..someone should spank you……….

didnt care for them live even though I like quite a bit of the recorded material

odd crowd as well, very young, not what I expected

I think the part when it was just the two of them proves they just write normal songs and then throw everything and the kitchen sink in to them, like noise music for people who dont like noise music
i was a bit disappointed with this show actually. the black cat gig was so good last year that it's really hard to top it. i thought the arrangements were really bland…sacrificing the melody that makes their music so catchy. oh, well. it won't stop me from going to see them next time they come through. the new tracks sound interesting. still looking forward to the next album.

…and the crowd was really bizarre. very young and very yo-boy (i saw a handful of baseball capped and adidas tracksuit-wearin' teens).
the crowd was a trip. baseball caps and parents with little kids. i can't decide whether i like their new live show or the black cat one. i'm always blown away at how they arrange their songs for live shows. i think their past shows were more listener friendly, but this show really got me thinking about their music. this was also the first time i really watched the drummer. that guy is hysterical. overall i'd say i enjoyed the show.
I didn't know whether to watch the drummer or the crazy guy in front of me "raising the roof" and freaking his girlfriend like he was in the 7th grade.

Good show though.
