This has lame duck session written all over it. Mitch knows he's giving away the Senate if he votes before, but can probably sway the holdouts to play along after the election, no matter the result
Replacing RBG
Agree
vansmack wrote:Yeah. Trump gets to frame it as “the election is about this seat” which can’t possibly hurt him. Then if he loses, you just ram it thru in lame duck session anyway.

True but if democrats take senate could wind up giving Democrats ammunition to justify packing Court
Although would they have all 50 votes? I doubt it
I just don’t see democrats packing the court…

Thinking some more I think maybe democrats should say now before election ends that if they gain a majority on senate they will expand the court to 13 after Biden takes over unless Republicans hold off on replacing RBG
I like this approach more than whining and begging Republicans to do right thing which is weak…also better than trying to shoot down nominee No matter
who it is
Democrats should emphasize election has already started…people are already voting… wrong to replace in middle of election…ie, totally different scenario from Merrick Garland which was 8 months earlier before anyone had voted..hell before we knew candidates
And maybe- this is the one part am not sure about- to hammer it home democrats should say they would boycott confirmation hearings
That’s the play
I do see a problem with this if they nominate that Cuban American judge from Miami..could really alienate cubanos but every alternative has problems and the cubanos seem a bit of a lost cause

most of those cubans were voting GOP before this
I do think the FL play is a big factor though

There are 30 working days
Of course Mitch could use weekends?
But assuming not…some senators are campaigning for re-election, have debates etc
Obviously confirmation can’t start Monday
So 29 days or less in the middle of a very contentious general election
Including today, only 13 working Senate days before the election.

in today's chronicles of the over-educated: "pidgen" is an incorrect spelling of "pigeon", the bird. but "pidgen" is also a simplified, deformed version of a language, AKA patois, creole, etc. if you look at grassley's writing, it's pretty horrific. so when hatch asked "What was up with those pidgin tweets from grassley" i thought he was being snarky about the poor grammar and syntax… my bad.
I found a Bible in an antique shop that was written in “pidgen English” once and it was a thoroughly enjoyable purchase and flip thru. Jesus was repeatedly referred to as DAT DER BIG MAN or something equally humorous to regular English speakers.
Turtle says will vote on confirmation before election….
Grassley will confirm
Gardner from Colorado also
They have the votes
Gardner from Colorado also
They have the votes
It's very hard to contain my rage, frustration, and sadness this week.
Romney's in too.
I wonder what they were given to change their mind….

Probably a link to some compromising video they have
complements of Putin
I don’t think so… this is what they want…have always wanted…once they saw they had cover (“everybody else is doing it”) it became easier to go along
I mean they may loathe Trump but a 6-3 conservative court is a dream come true for them! They know what it means…

dems take over all 3 branches. dems impeach a few conservative judges for any reason they can, remove and replace until a liberal balance is achieved. dems ignore cries of "tyranny!!!" from the GOP, because dems have finally had enough and are going to play hardball too.
^ dems the type of fantasies that keep me sane.

Democrats would never do that..it really is fantasy…Democrats will never pack the court etc…can you imagine getting 50 democrats to agree to that in senate…manchin? Please
Our strategy of hoping 10% of Republican Senators were decent has failed
And we have nothing left but to whine and complain
