Anyone who is smiling in that picture pulled it together for the camera.  This was about mile 16 on an 85 degree day. That guy is how we were all really feeling.

My daughter did tae know do for six years, and every year we went to the Christmas party. Every attendee received two tickets for a prize drawing that always included stuff like $25 gift certificates to the kind of restaurants that only grandparents and large Catholic families eat at, as well as the grand prize punching bag.

Every year we walked disappointed at having lost the bag, including the time we even walked home with a sack of consolation prize junk. Then in the final year. our number was called. We proudly walked to the stage, I carried the bag home, put it in the cellar….and you're right, it was barely used.

And six months later she quit tae kwon do.
