"All time" would include the future, so I guess music is done. Congrats, Ms. Hill. And congrats to us since, for most of us, all of this music was created in our lifetimes. Take that, Lisztomaniacs!

Not sure what people love about that Lauryn Hill album.
Nice to see ONE Latino act make the list….

One person said it’s a list of the records they sell at Urban Outfitters
Or as another point out, it looked like the person that compiled it had never listened to an entire album and at a deadline was just adding albums they had heard of to fill in gaps

These are very good points. This makes sense as a playlist intended to appeal to a broad range of people who self-identify as ‘cool’ created by someone who likes the idea of music more than they like listening to music.

Found the tweet
https://x.com/steven_hyden/status/1791528122422104415?s=46&t=81bsTFbar0Jl_mHBl9WnuAI imagine that Apple Music Top 100 Albums List was compiled by one person who was like "I have heard every album ever" but in reality had never listened to a single album in their life. And then they forgot the assignment until the night before deadline and they had to cram.
It was when it included Velvet Underground, Arctic Monkeys and Oasis in positions 60, 59 and 58

Here, let me play the Space Freely role: so despite making up only 0.5% of the worlds population, Black Americans have made 70% of the top ten records of all time.

Where are all the Chinese acts? This list is so racist. We need diversity, equity, and inclusion.

It’s a pretty balanced list with the 1990s represented a bit more than music from other decades. Hard to argue with some of the choices…. Others like Pet Sounds have become mantra for no good reason.

make a list of the most obvious albums and then make sure it looks edgy by including the most obvious critical acclaimed ones that no one bought the first time around… burial, kraftwerk, patti smith, velvet underground… and oh lets be super edgy and put Amy Winehouse's way overproduced by Mark Ronson album in the top 10
at first glance it seemed like it has those albums that turned some of the artists who had success and were playing club/theater sized venues into arena and above level acts.. i.e kacey, the cure, oasis, talking heads, radiohead
certainly looks like a group artists and "experts" being presented the Rolling Stone's best 500 album list and told to choose their favorites..
and just once wouldn't it be nice of these so called experts had ever listened to an "outlier" like Bangwagonesque, "Especially For You", or "DIfferent Class" or really sretch and discover Calibro 35's S.P.A.C.E. for instance…

I guess Mozart really wasn't a genius now, was he?
I guess Apple Music is playing the "any publicity is good publicity" game since people are talking about this #1 Most Preposterous List of All Time list.
But who really is the audience for it? Obviously not those of us responding on this forum, or anyone outside of the Western Hemisphere. Or the African or South American continents. Hell, the list is even less inclusive than the fucking Grammys.

I hate trying to make any kind of list as I would be constantly adding stuff to it, heck I can't even seem to ever finish up a year end list… I tend to listen to most music in the moment.. as far as a ranked list Fuhgeddaboudit :D

Taking into account the universe of this list, Shania Twain Come on Over should be up there. I’d put it at Number 4, honestly.
Era defining. Every song is a hit. A cohesive whole. Brilliantly (over) produced and executed. Massive commercial success. Massively influential. Holds up. The modern Nashville Thriller.
