Text Message spam

Okay, suddenly in the past week I'm getting spammed via text message on my cell. What the f*&^??!!

One was a gambling website, today it was www.outdebt2008.com.

Is this happening to other folks, and is there anything you can do about it?

I only get them from my cell phone company about changing my text message plan. And about ringtones, but they come about once or twice a month.

I got a call from Jack Black when Be Kind Rewind came out… It freaked me out.

I started getting several spam emails a day when I signed up for Hillary Clinton's email list. previously I'd only gotten 1 every month or so, and I am on tons of email lists.
did you perhaps put your phone number anywhere related to a political campaign?

nope, no sms spam here. i think i might have received one in the past year. who's your provider? i'm with sprint.

it there a do-not-spam list similar to the do-not-call list?

it makes me nervous, tho, when fan clubs and stores promise you "special offers" via text message. i'm sure somewhere down in the terms of service it reads "user who provide cell phone numbers agree to receive occasional test message from (store, fan club, etc) and from our affiliates"… but i never bother to read that fine print. so far it hasn't gone either way for me. i've never received anything good like a presale code that way, but i'm also not getting any spam.

The wife and I both have been getting many more than usual over the past 2 weeks. Used to be one every few months, but its been 4 or 5 in the past 10 days on both phones. Some are the same, some are different…. weird

And you know, I'm not a teenager. I have a limited plan for texts, so I may end up having to pay actual dollars for that spam.

Nope, haven't given info to any political campaigns.

my mom and my brother were getting them a couple of months ago, and i got one like a week ago which was bizarre.

anyway, my mom doesn't have a texting plan anfd was flipping out so she called verizon to complain and apparently a bunch of other people had gotten them, called, and complained, so they decided they just wouldn't bill for it…so i'd report it to your provider if you don't want the billz.
