Mountain goats is sold out.

And I actually thought to buy tickets in advance this time!
The Black Cat is too small for the Mountain Goats, plus it's a Saturday. Glad you got yours.

Hmm…

Mountain Goats cancelled their Australian tour because of "personal health reasons." Hope it's not anything too serious.
That was the worst Mountain Goats show I've ever seen. Except for "This Year", the songs did not work with a drummer. Your thoughts?

I really enjoyed it. But it was the only one I've seen so I have nothing to judge it against.

Thought all the new songs sounded good with a drummer but then again, I haven't heard them played without one.

Thought his voice sounded good and strong too.
Oh yeah, seen them a dozen times. The best ones are in 2001 during which he didn't have any setlist and set was entirely request only from the audience.

Anyway, here's a video of "This Year" from SF during Noise Pop:

Very.

Fuck Buttons too.

Malkmus>Raveonettes>Caribou/FB
Thao was good, but I wasn't blown away…did you go? About 1/2 of the audience left after Thao or after 2 songs from Xiu Xiu.

It was an odd pairing with Xiu Xiu I must say, though. It was my first time seeing Xiu Xiu as a 4 piece and boy were they loud. I wasn't feeling it until the last 5 or 6 songs…very moving…*sigh* need to see them again…..

i was one of those that left after thao. xiu xiu just ain't never been my thang. i wasn't blown away by thao, but i don't usually like bands that blow people away, if that makes any sense. very good songs played well, that's good enough for me on a thursday night. "bag of hammers" and "feet asleep" are just crazy great songs.
the filthy youth (cant wait to see how many young girls are trying to see them - Ed from gossip girl is in the band) … at least its 21+

next week: eels, helio sequence/spinto band, and ambulance ltd/wild light.
I think she has a better voice on record than live…but they are indeed very good musicians and the songs were played well.

Did you catch Chris Garneau? He looked and sounded like Sufjan Stevens…

chris garneau was giving off a nico vibe, except nico is a whole lot more manly sounding.

i think thao's vocals are double-tracked a lot on the record, so that could be the reason she sounded better on CD. but then again, most people do, i guess.
Raveonettes!!!!!!!!!
ghostland observatory for me, who else is going?
