Washington Post Disparages Virgin Fest Bookers

thats awesome.

maybe we should have maskapalooza and have slipknot and insane clown posse play.

bands with masks suck almost as much as bands with saxaphones.
but not as much as bands with accordions.
i for one think this is going to be hilarious

they're astonishingly bad, no doubt, but who doesn't love watching a good ol' fashioned musical trainwreck?
I saw F-them. I'd rather see Jimmie's Chicken Shack.

you would think they would have been a shoe in. I still think the masses picked the wrong band last year, by not voting for Cold War Kids.

watch what you say about accordions… i remember when a record store in detroit ran an ad making a disparaging remark about accordion music and it caused quite an uproar
I think the promoters really just want to mock anyone who bought a ticket. Now you get to see these talentless shitheads along with Paramore and Taking Back Sunday! It's like a sub-par Warped Tour for half the day.

The Washington Post has it right (except We Are Scientists aren't half bad). The V-Fest made a really dumb mistake.
Is it fair to say the V-Fest has one of the highest single day price tags of any American festival, for the least amount of bands and stages?
i'm pretty sure it's the most expensive, i can't think of any other major festival that charges as much.

the worse value proposition (# bands/stages vs. price) is questionable. don't forget the dance tent, i'd consider that a third stage. VFest has a really solid line-up for folks into EDM.

friday @ outsidelands has VFest beat in terms of a worse value, on a one-day basis.

Who actually gets to festivals early enough to see the first band on the bill?
if it's not oppressively hot on day 1 of lolla, i plan to catch fuck buttons @ 12:15 - first act of the day on the at&t stage. on saturday i might catch the ting tings, also first band of the day on that stage.
I'm disappointed that nobody has tipped off the band so that they can unleash the fury of the "Undead Army" on the Post's blog.

I know I'm in the minority on this board but I'd rather pay more to see "bigger" bands on fewer stages. This year if I end up going it's for Foo, Kanyizle and NIN-if I saw those artists alone it would be $175+.

*ducks*
Oh my lord. As bad as you think this band might be, it's worse. Go to their myspace page and listen.

It's so bad that I think I'm going to specifically get there early enough to witness the spectacle.
After listening/researching these douchebags, I've decided that I actually do not pity them the least for having to pay their first show ever in front of a crowd that will most likely boo them mercilessly.

I was also incredbily pissed the Kids didn't win last year, but I saw them at 930 and they were phenomenal so….

Here's to hoping HOllywood Undead plays the club! Woooo!

Worth posting the whole blurb:

The Hollywood UndeadStraight from the ghettofabulous streets of Hollywood rises this up & coming 7 piece fusion of morbid Hip Hop, surrealistic Hardcore, and fashion conscious Metal, and not since Motley Crue has a Hollywood band generated the type of buzz and blatant admiration that has been created by this recent addition into the scene.
Populated by 7 heavy metal/hardcore hooligans, the Hollywood Undead began as the brainchild of J-Dog and Tha Producer, two streetwise scene kids who frequented the Los Angeles club scene. The Hollywood skyline was their shelter. Drinking, thugging, and debauchery were their trademark.

After 1 day of dropping their sound onto Myspace, their account exploded like TNT. The Hollywood Undead space grew in size in a matter of hoursstarting out with an audience of 10, and blowing up into one that included several thousand users just in their first day of entry into the space. Hundreds of comments from awestruck admirers. Thousands of adds per day on average. Tens of thousands of profile views. Close to 4000 DOWNLOADS PER DAY. Reaching number 12 on the myspace top bands chart, then number 8, then number 4, and finally after only 1 week taking on the number 1 spot, beating out some of the most famous bands in the world. Bands like Nine Inch Nails, Coldplay, System Of A Down and even their friends "From First To Last".

The band now consists of an entourage of Hollywood brats that have been selectively recruited into the gang/group on the basis of their mad skillz: J Dog, Da Kurlzzz, Charlie Scene, Tha Producer, Funny Man, The Server,

Donning bone-chilling masks so that their strapping good looks cannot take away from their musical artistry, The Hollywood Undead has burst onto the scene to show The Kids how it's really done

what an eff up. thanks to an army of teens in california, we get to deal with their flavor-of-the-month. sounds like this band's main talent is street-teamer management. to think that their first show is going to be behind a 50,000 watt PA. maybe they'll get heat stroke.

could someone please show up for their show and hold up a sign that reads "go back to the internet where you came from" ?

<img src="http://stuff.orly.ch/img/blog/dont_worry_sir_i_m_from_the_internet.jpg" alt=" - " />

threadjack: what sign would you hold up for this band?
You are probably short a zero on the PA size.
the article is right and wrong.

they're right in the sense that it is a disgrace that hollywood undead is doing their first ever live performance on such a stacked bill. do these kids even know who chuck berry is?

but they're wrong by saying they need to ditch "book the band". what the Vfest promoters need to do is pick bands that would easily fit in at V-fest.

I remember seth saying, on this forum, in the v-fest thread, "I would never book limp bizkit".

well… whats the difference here?…

I'm kind of embarrassed that V-Fest is flying them out here, and paying them to play this show.
I was kind of wondering about this. I was wondering if maybe the voting was rigged, and hollywood undead was picked to win from the start… the catch for them was, they weren't going to get paid for the show.

v-fest promoters get an act for free, one that most people will probably forget, while hollywoodd undead plays to a big crowd (something i'm sure they'd love to do) and the fans who vote get to feel like they're really voting and being given something cool (even if their band doesn't win).

i'm probably wrong, but it really wouldn't surprise me that much if this was the case (given that aiden won last year as well). because seriously, WAS should have had it in the bag.
When Hollywood Undead plays a sold-out five night stand at Merriweather in 2010, we will all understand the enigma that is Seth Hurwitz.
