Sadly, I get both Mankie and Julian, and I wouldn't mind having a drink with either one of them. Of course one would be a warm bitters and the other would be a bubbly.
Only mankie would tell another boardie that perhaps something happened to them because they smelt like sour milk and only Julian would take offense to being told that (in his Burberry sweater no less).
I enjoyed the exchange much more than this thread. For the record, only once did I decide to pay above face value for tickets (Anaheim in the World Series) and when I told my story about what Ticketbastard did to me, the guy sold it to me for face value.

I would never pay over face value. And I never sell for over face value. In fact, I would probably never pay over $50 which is easy when you swear off all arena shows.
I gave away my $10 ticket to Coldplay at the club, I guess it was for the second album, I had other plans, but somebody was pretty happy. And I sold my A Perfect Circle ticket at face value outside the club at face value, I think I went to a Rhett Miller matinee at the Black Cat or something instead, pretty sure I was the only person to make that change in plans.

I'd pay an infinite amount to see a few of my favorite bands play together… If Nada Surf and Versus played together, I'd pay anything. In reality, it would probably be an $18 ticket.

I wasn't taking offense, since I'd never met Mankie so he couldn't say if I have an odor or not.
If Mankie and I had actually spent time together, and
then I was told I smelled bad, then I'd feel bad – but about myself – for being smelly. I'd only take offense if he told me purely to hurt my feelings, but if it came from a good place, I'd be OK with it, because I'd rather know I had a problem so I could rectify it.
I'm all about self-improvement, and I think it's better for ones to take their lumps and realize some hard truths about themselves then continue being a lower quality person then they otherwise could be.

I have entire Julian's America column about their umbrellas planned for early next week. I might bump it up if this becomes a hot-button issue.

considering that our policy is that as long as it's face value it's cool to sell outside the club, this is a problem. please send me a pm with any more details you remember (what show, description of the staff member, that kind of thing), and i'll look into it. i'm sorry that this happened to you.

Okay, it's happened. I'm looking for Karma. I bought 4 Hold Steady tickets and I CANNOT FIND THEM. One ticket was a birthday present, and the other for my friend who's moving to CA in September (and was planning to come to DC for this show from NY). Any help finding 3 tickets (at face, since I'm already out $100 or however much the tix were) would be MUCHO MUCHO appreciated.
Nearly any other show I would just miss, but this would be a special show….
Right now on Craigslist folks are trying to get $50 per ticket (I can't remember if face value was $20 or $25 – I think just $20).

Everyone on Craigslist is asking $40 for Hold Steady tickets (with shipping or postage on top of that). I kinda want to turn them all in for scalping… I'm hoping supply far outstrips demand in the end and they get stuck with tickets.
I'm still lookin' for 2. :(

Maybe Karma was telling you to not drink so much.

if you bought them with a CC then they might be able to re-issue them.

Good thought. Tried that, and the club doesn't have that capability (I think that's why they still rip off the stub rather than just read your ticket's bar code).

Ah, never mind. I misread your other post. My apologies.
I read a rumour that Drive By Truckers and the Hold Steady are going to tour together in November. Won't help you with your current predicament, but that would be the show to see.

Although unfortunately that sounds like it would be a DAR show to me (just guessing).

The Philly venue that was mentioned was the Electric Factory. Which DC venue does that equate to?

DAR or two nights at 930, probably.
