Weekend Roll Call

I got there about a minute before they went on, and left before they presumably came back for the encore. I looked for you thinking you might be there, but didn't see you…

I thought they were good, musically. A bit carbon copyish of their recorded stuff, but still good. And quite passionate. The singer was a little offputting at times tough. Maybe it was his good looking frat boy looks combined with his quite dopey between song mumblings.

Maybe slightly wishing I had skipped Pela and went to Liam Finn tonight instead, but I'll most likely be at home watching American Idol tonight. Are you going to that one tonight?

Anybody have a guess about set times for the Pela show tonight at RNR? Three bands, doors listed as 8 and showtime as 8:30.

Swell Season was one of the best shows I've seen in my entire life.

Saw Swell Season last night at Radio City. It was easily one of the best shows Ive seen in a long time. They played for 2 hours and ended the night with a Van Morrison cover (the second Van Morrison cover of the night). Marketa did a cover with her sister from the movie Wicker Man in the 70's. Her whole family came to the show which was pretty cool. Theyre playing another show in Central Park that I wont be missing in Sept.

Falling Slowly was just beautiful. Once sounded incredible. Glen played one song with Interference, the opener. He talked a lot and told us about the meaning/story behind every song. It could have gone on forever.
Did he dwell on how swell it was to grind it up with an underage teen?

LOL. He *knows* he looks good.

Nah, not going to anything tonight. Saving my energy for Islands (Thursday) then Silver Mt.Zion/Vic Chesnutt (Friday).

i'd be there if i was in town. let us know how it is and how late a 4-band saturday night show goes…
Black Moth hit the stage at 12:45(!) and played til 1:30 am. The place was about 3/4 full…pretty impressive. I didn't know they have a lot of fans in DC. Great show, great visuals. I finally get to see what they looked like! I wasn't into Subtle, but the two Danish bands (Efterklang and Slaraffenland) were pretty good. Actually, Efterklang were pretty amazing (for fans of Sigur Ros and Broken Social Scene??)

I forgot that show was last night. Oops.

On the fence about Kemialliset Ystävät tonight.
Did you go to Silver Mt. Zion? I went to nap and got up at 10 pm last Friday. How was Vic Chesnutt?

I did and ASMZ were pretty stellar. They played a few new songs (as in not recorded yet), Mountains Made of Steam, 1 million died…, Could've Moved Mountains and Microphones in the Trees. Wasn't too into what I caught of Vic Chesnutt. Felt to me like he's someone you have to let grow on you.
