happy songs for happy spring days

ok, i know i'm spending waaaay too much time on the board today, but that's what we do on spring fever days to pass the time till 5, right?

Too much of the music I have is emo-y sadness Bright Eyes style rainy music, so I'm at a loss on days like today.
Anyway, I've found my happy spring day song for today…
Ted Leo, Biomusicology.

Also on my happy song list:
Belle & Sebastian, My Wandering Days Are Over
Most of the Strokes first album
Tuscadero, Dime a Dozen
Death Cab, Blacking Out the Friction
Modest Mouse, Gravity Rides Everything
Elvis Costello, The Other Side of Summer
Polyphoinc Spree, Light & Day
Bright Eyes, Bowl of Oranges
And my perennial favorite, They Might Be Giants, Hey Mr. DJ I Thought You Said We Had a Deal

I heard "Have a Nice Day" by Stereophonics on the way to the office this morning and thought it was more than appropriate. Especially in SF.
been digging on the galactic heros "how about san francisco" album all day. 'wonderful' is even about a road trip to dc ("we ate at bob and edith's"). awesome
everything by Sloan, Anna Waronker and half of Fountains of Wayne… ;)
i've always associated "magic" by the cars has a happy song for spring days. . but you can't really go wrong with the cars (although, if it's a happy song you're looking for, skip "drive")

i like just about all of the first ben folds five album, any album by cub, "electricity" by spiritualized (great spring driving song), and most of "pet sounds"
Thanks to Kosmo I am listening to a mix of Splittsville, Myracle Brah, Don Dixon and other power pop bands. Even forcing some of my coworkers to listen as I have it on the radio. Since they took away my stapler I am allowed to play the radio at a reasonable volume.
I know it's not a Spring song, but "Valley Winter Song" by FOW just hit the spot for me.
My boss just informed me that he was going to pick up 40oz's for everyone!!! haha.

I am listening to "score from augusta" right now
my spring song in college was "fantastic day" by haircut 100… too bad it's on vinyl or i'd be blasting it right now
This song always gets me thinking of spring and happy things.

I'm sitting in my bedroom
overlooking Findhorn Bay
Cluny Hill ion the distance
summer on the way
Blue skies and sailing boats
like a picture in a book
I can't believe I got here
or how long it took

Living one step at a time
putting one foot in front of the other
it sure feels right
Healing on my mind
been a long way
been a long way to the light

I'd made it to Manhattan
built myself a nest
I meant to get right back to doing
exactly what I do best:
Pluggin in an electric guitar,
leading a band
Well, if you want to give God a laugh
- tell him your plans!

Summer in the city
wilting in the heat
buzzing up and down to Bearsville
and back to Hudson Street
I learned meditation
and how to visualise -
just breathing, being still
never felt more alive!

Living one step at a time…

I spent the fall in transit
circling the moon
like a cat on a hot tin roof
like a fiddle without a tune
I found what I was searching for
in Mrs Caddy's book
I had to go there straightaway
have myself a look

I flew back to Scotland
anticipation in my bones
the old country welcoming me
like a prodigal coming home
I knelt and kissed the tarmac
in the wild atlantic rain
felt the fiery gaelic blood
rising in my veins

Living one step at a time…

I spent the night in Glasgow
flew to Inverness
I found the Place and at the first
I was not impressed
Nobody said hello
the faces left me cold
Back then how was I to know
all that would unfold?

I entered thje Sanctuary
- heard the vioce of a girl
sending out a circle of light
clear across the world
I shuddered in the Power
like a seedling in a storm
I've been travelling to this place
since the moment I was born

Flew back to New York City
singing the big city blues
the sand of Findhorn Bay
still clingin to my shoes
I tried to re-start my life
but the life I knew was gone
I had to let go everything
but that's another song!

Living one step at a time…

So I'm sitting in my bedroom
overlooking Findhorn Bay
Cluny Hill in the distance
summer on the way
I'm watching sailing boats
bobbing to and fro
- time to hit the road
the only way I know…

Living one step at a time…
de novo dahl will substitute until i can be arsed to dig out my mixer..,
So does this!

The lights are on in Standun's
and the spell has been broken
The roadside teahouse door
is wide open
A sign on the wall
says "American also spoken"
As Spring comes to Spiddal

The village girls go walking
by without their coats
The Irish gaelic college
is alive again with folk
Farmers gather talking
freed from Winter's yoke
As Spring comes to Spiddal

A tourist with a telescope
and a funny looking German bloke
And a billy goat
all invoke
The Summer soon to bloom

On a soft and fresh Atlantic air
a mist of pollen floats
On Galway Bay I spy
a gaily painted fishing boat
There's a rustle around the boreens
and a song on every throat
As Spring comes
to Spiddal
also, add 90% of the music by Mates of State…

Fantastic disc, but I'd hardly call it happy springtime music.
For me it's Scarlet Begonias by The Grateful Dead.
Or anything by the Go-Go's or B-52's.
