Give Responsibly

As you are giving to charities for the victims of Katrina, or anything else for that matter, please be weary of everyone who claims to be aiding the cause. Some are fantastic and others are nothing but grifters. Also, being well known isn't necessarily an indication of quality or responsible caring.

Easily said, I know, but hard to investigate. Assuming this site is reliable, this may help a few of you.

Of course the Red Cross web site should be reliabel we would hope!
For a few days after the hurricane, Operation Blessing (Pat Robertson's organization) was listed at the top of FEMA's "donate" page, right after the Red Cross! I just checked and they've taken it down…..

Wow, $2000 worth of crack. That won't last too long. There has to be a better way.

are you assuming that

a) everyone displaced from the hurricane is a crackhead?

or

b) you can now buy crack with a debit card!!

Actually, I was thinking about that. You've been pretty quiet during this whole ordeal. You musta been on vacation. And yes, at least one white guy floating on a tire yelling he's not leaving without his dog because he's the only one he could trust, lives in New Orleans. I'm sure he's dead from the E Coli virus or something by now, or maybe he got the vaccination because he was white.

I am from Canada, we dont have or care about hurricanes….

actually no, I have had an alarming amount of disinterest in what has been going on there. I havent watched hardly any news , read hardly any articles or anything. I dont know why really.

i did drop $5 extra at the grocery store for relief aid. i think maybe i am purposely blocking it out cause its so awful.

i loved New Orleans when i went….one of the most fun cities in America.
I'm like you. I think in my 22 years in Maine we had one. Even when I was stationed in Guam for 16 months, not one typhoon. They were over a dozen the year before and after I was there. Couldnt believe it. I now regret not going to the VooDoo festival in New Orleans last year, even if rebuilt, it'll never be the same.
