Going on vacation in these parts. Got the backpacking trip planned, as well as visits to Grand Teton and Yellowstone. Also planning on seeing and O's/Rockies matchup.
Anybody have tips on cool record stores, bars, thrift stores, restuarants, etc. in those parts, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

well, the tattered cover in denver (they have 2 stores, go to the cherry creek store, not lodo) is a really good bookstore. that's the best i can do. you're best bet for thrift stores and the like is probably to go to boulder and hang out with the dirty hippies. since it's summer, there shouldn't be too many students around.

Okay Rhett, admit that Dick Cheney invited you out to his Wyoming ranch as an expression of gratitude for your support

I know I've walked past a club or two outside the front gates of Coors Field, one Club always seems to be busy, just follow the people who sell the shirts and peanuts.

There are a bunch of cool antique shops, junk shops, etc. on S. Broadway in Denver, probably about a 5 or 6 block strip of 'em. I just love that area of Denver and would go back there specifically to go exploring in these shops. The Hornet is a good cafe/restaurant right there too.
I second Eddie's vote for Twist and Shout, I've gotten in big trouble there more than once. Tattered Cover is excellent too.
As for clubs, the LoDo/Coors Field area is pretty yuppified but there's some good old west architecture in LoDo, if you like that sort of thing. Try the Lion's Lair, Larimer Lounge, The Bluebird, and The Gothic Theatre, which is beautiful.

I'm headed to Denver area in a month or so. I've been looking for where to go / do if I have any "off" time. Currently, no shows of interest scheduled when I'm there. :(

If you want Brit Pop there is the Lipgloss night at La Rumba on Fridays. Bars: Herbs if you want somewhere to go after the baseball game, in the Colfax area there is the PS Lounge, The Streets of London, Satires, just north on seventeenth street try The Thin Man, Charlie Browns on Capital Hill is still old school Denver Capital Hill, on Broadway try The Hi-Dive, the Skylark Lounge. Also Pints Pub has the largest selection of Scotch in the country. I can't recommend Twist and Shout enough. My favorite record store in the country. Also try Waxtrax at 13th and Washington. Good movie theater is the Mayan on Broadway. Go to
www.westword.com (ie: Denver's Citypaper) for more.

We've been planning this since 2004.
