I wish there was a way to get these without the bonus discs. I've been looking forward to these for a long time, but I'm not anxious to spend $23 for a bonus disc I'll rarely listen to. I'll probably just buy one of them and if I'm blown away by the sound, I'll pickup the others.

my old copies of Seventeen Seconds and Pornography sound fine. bonus discs might be kinda cool, though. hmmm.

a couple options…

Napster might get the bonus tracks they certainly have the extra tracks off the umpteenth Bowie reissues. Download the entire album decide what you want and pay .99 per track if so desired. I'm quite digging the convience of Napster, wish iTunes would offer similiar service.

Another route to go is yourmusic.com, run by the BMG music club folks with much less fuss then the club. Basically cue up list of CDs and one is shipped every month for $5.99 For those worried about finding anything good, they have the Rough Trade CDs available. Cancel anytime….

But for those looking for the double disc re-issues it will cost members 11.98 with free shipping. That applies to boxsets as well. i.e. the Join the Dots set costs 23.96. Much better price than iTunes, etc and one gets the physical product.

You mean a service where you need to maintain a subscription in order to keep songs in a proprietary format on your computer?

itunes music store isn't great either, but a) works with an ipod and b)doesn't require you to pay $14.99 per month (or however much it is) just to keep a crappy WMA file on your hard drive.

lets see don't own an ipod… from what i'm hearing the WMA files sound fine… and i like being able to download the ENTIRE song and CD for preview purposes, not a 30 second clip for the cost of a single cd purchase and at this point i'm not using the to go feature which works with several mp3 players unlike the itunes store.

so basically it's another example of my proprietary setup is better than your proprietary setup.

the subscription model will work for those cds you may only want to hear once or twice like the phoenix live disc… i also for instance wouldn't have bought the gramham coxon cd had i listened to via napster, it's good not certainly great. i can also listen to the new Green Day to see what all the fuss is about… It's like having a library card and being able to borrow those records you only want to listen to a couple times a year.

I thought you could listen to the new green day for free on MTV.com or something…

I actually don't use a PC 95% of the time, so a napster set-up wouldn't really make sense for me regardless. And though the court is still out (literally…grokster case was last month) on p2p file sharing, I do in fact use it to weed out stuff I have no interest in buying.
