Heres a question. My crazy canadian sister just text messaged me this :
Who sings that song that goes, "in the pines, in the pines, where the sun never shines, i shivered the whole night long"
now, i take it that its some lame traditional folk song, but she wouldnt know that, and i know Bob Dylan has performed it, but you cant mistake his voice…so did anyone recent sing this song?

She's probably referring to the Nirvanna unplugged version. But I think in that concert Kurt said that it's a Ledbelly song. Not sure though.

I believe you're incorrect, sonick…
In The Pines
By Huddie 'Leadbelly' Ledbetter
Performed by Bob Dylan on his first major gig, in Carnegie Chapter Hall, Nov 4, 1961, and during his longest gig, the Toad's Place concert Jan 12, 1990.

Several sources list it as a "traditional" song popularized by Leadbelly.

Where the hell's Hammerly when U need him?
Point of trivia:
Kurdt Cobain originally played on the Leadbelly classic, "In the Pines," on Mark Lanegan's 1990 "The Winding Sheet" album, along w/Chris Novoselic, and it was renamed "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" for that release.

There was another version of it that I use to love done back in the late 60s or early 70s. Think it was by Maggie Bell.
Or maybe it was Bonnie Bramlett with Eric Clapton, or something like that.

I think the words might have come from a real old poem or something. I vaguely remember reading it once and remembering the songs, but there were a couple of things that were changed.
