Advice on getting rid of old computers

Anyone have any? I have a PC laptop that's in somewhat working order, a Mac laptop that works fine but is probably a little outdated, and a PC desktop that has a bum hard drive but is in otherwise good condition (and the hard drive may work after a reformat).
Anyone know of a place that buys computers for parts or buys outdated computers for other purposes? I'd love to donate them, but buying a new laptop and all of the programs I'll need have set me back a good bit, so even a little money is better than none.
Any advice?

I think your best return is to donate them and get the tax deduction at the end of the year.

There are also computer recycling programs and hazardous waste programs you can look into if you just want to get rid of them and don't really need the money.
If you're buying a new Mac, they'll recycling your old computer for free.

We have a place called
Green Citizen out here that recycles all electronics. I'd look for the equivelant in your area.
If the computers work, your local school will almost alway take them.

They talked about this on Tech Tues on Kojo Namdi yesterday. They might have the sites listed on their website. I forget the names of the companies.

As a last ditch option before throwing things away, Office Depot has 3 different size boxes you can buy and put the stuff in for recycling. I think they cost from $5 to $15 depending on the size (the largest one is big enough for old CRT monitors). I'd only do this if you can't find any takers, though. Freecycle and Craigslist may have people who would take them if you post the specs.
