d.c.1 - you might have missed it, but there was another thread when the concerts were first announced. more buzz there.
(can we PLEASE get a search function in here?!?)
Thievery Corporation Roll Call
Originally posted by Señor Carlos:ok, thanks buddy. cheer up. you aren't one of the jaded self-righteous 930 club board regulars i'm talking about are you?
Originally posted by d.c.1:Actually, I'd say there are many folks on this forum going to the show, and if you'd been paying attention you'd have seen the long thread as boardies cheered along, happy for TC's success for selling out 4 shows. Even Seth, overlord of 9:30 chimed in to say TC were one of his favorite live acts of all time. In fact, I'd hardly call it a stretch to say there are far more Fugazi detractors on this board than those who would trash TC. And I say that Pitchfork gets bashed as much as any band or entity on this board.
Originally posted by chokeychicken:that's cuz this forum is saturated with jaded and self righteous indie-rock nerds who won't support "fun" music or great local bands unless it's fugazi or some new buzz band fugazi wannabe with a profile on pitchfork.com.
surprised to see the lack of forum members at these shows.
but that's just my take on it.
I'm not sure what you mean when you say this board doesn't support "fun" music, what the hell is "fun" music anyway?
But that's just my take on it, jackass. Pay closer attention next time.
Originally posted by d.c.1:Jaded, nah, self-righteous..perhaps a bit. I've got nothing but good will for (nearly) all, but when someone comes along with 40 posts or whatever and starts calling the whole board nerds or dorks or whatever and whatnot i can't help myself. Gotta spend a little time in the sandbox before you can start throwing sand around. :D

lol, anyway just taking the piss. not trying to have an internet fight here. maybe i'll see you at the show(s)?
Originally posted by d.c.1:Dangit I just could'nt resist the low post count comment. And this is really the only board I actually engage people on, so I learned all my bad manners here! All the other boards I read and post on are much dorkier than this one….people beeping and sqwawking about exchange servers and active directory, whatever that fuck that is…..or speakers or AV gear. This is the only place if ever use words like fuck, piss and jackass.

Actually I've never even heard Thievery Corporation! So I won't be there…..but am sure they'll be great shows so enjoy!
Read and post more often and next thing you know you can join me the when I start piling on Rhett, or yelling at Dupek to stop race baiting or posting all those stupid links.
Originally posted by Señor Carlos:Wow, I thought you were Dupek. I don't know who anyone is anymore.

My new year's resolution is to never change my screen name again. Which I really haven't done too too many times anyway.
A good show. Not a great show, but consistently good tonight. Sista Pat is the bomb. I want to be that cool in 20 years.
I was asking one of the ESL staff about the set list and he said that they planned on doing the same set list tonight (Thursday) as well. That's why they were denying set lists to fans.
Seth got some time as percussionist when he wasn't smoozing or taking pictures with the vips, which included chef Jose Andres from Jaleo/Zaytinya/Cafe Atlantico. I didn't recognize anyone else up there.

TC will be doing a discussion with the washingtonpost today.
from the wp:
"Rob Garza and Eric Hilton, who make up the innovative ensemble group called Thievery Corporation, will be online Thursday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. ET"

how long was TC's set last night?
main set was 1:20 (ended at 11:45'ish)
first encore was 30-40 mins
second encore was one song
rolled outta da club around 1:00
thievery delivered exactly what i expected, which was a lot. last year i saw them for the first time and expected to see two turntables and a microphone, so when a full band hit the stage they blew me away. this year i knew what to expect so they didn't get the surprise factor. solid show, i'd go back tonight if i could. between encores, that was some of the loudest cheering i have ever heard at the 930. projection system was impressive (as is always the case with TC): a 20-foot high pixel/lcd screen behind rob and eric, with the front of their dj both thingy being a continuation of the screen behind them.
got to the club at 8:30 and all rail space upstairs was occupied. good real estate on the floor dissappeared by the time the openers hit the stage (definitely worth checking out - argentinian reggae!). arrive early if you want a good spot. place was packed solid.
plan on going to the ELS after the show if you can (we didn't pay any cover). when i got there the two jamaican MCs were performing. band was hanging out at the back of the main floor side room.
didn't make it home until 3:00. at work this morning. at gogol the previous night. i think i deserve a prize for hardcoreness/stupidity.

did they keep ESL open past the usual 2 am weeknight closing hour?
i'll be there tonite. Thx Verny, your new CD is the Shiz.
Did anyone catch what sort of merchandise they had for sale? Any posters?
I know pulling a setlist for a 2.5+ hour show from memory would be hard but any standout songs? Give me something to wet my appetite even more!

Oh man! I can't wait for Saturday!
How was the crowd? Were people dancing or was everyone just standing? I'm really hoping for some ENERGY!

lily1: they might have kept it open a little past 2, but i didn't check the time when we left.
peabody:
- i didn't check out the merch booth up close, but from my spot on the balcony rail i could see it. they only had two TC shirts and the usual assortment of 930 gear. i couldn't see if they had CDs or other stuff on the table.
- setlist excerpt: they played lebanese blond, richest man, and a lot of brazilian, reggae and french crap :p
lukas: crowd was packed in, people were dancing/grooving on the spot as best they could. lots of energy, see my previous post about loud cheering.

anyone remember how much shirts were?
from the washington post chat:
Washington, D.C.: How much are you planning on changing up the set lists for this string of shows at 9:30?
Eric Hilton: We'll be doing an almost identical set each night. There may be an extra song or two on Friday and Saturday b/c we can play later. I hope people will enjoy the same set regardless.
