Perhaps it was the bangs-over-the-eye thing but Thurston looked royally messed up (pupils all willy-nilly in their sockets). The most humorous part was when Catherine Velveeta-Jones went over to shake hands with a smirking Kim Gordon afterwards. I would have loved to have known what she was thinking at that moment.

Exhibit A
The Coral are the anti-Gomez, likewise rummaging in ancient record collections for diamonds they can pinch. But while Gomez sat around in their student digs getting high and wanking blues licks on each othersâ?? faces for 6 minutes at a time, The Coral are joyously caught up in their love of the gonzo three-minute pop song, aware that hooks and shouting and unexpected sudden turns and dashes down mad alleys are both more instantaneous and more satisfying than the self-satisfied muso wank-wank that comes so easily to other guitar-toting retro-heads.

Probably thinking "Too bad this hot babe has to fuck Michael Douglas."

That might be a good criticism of the new Gomez, but it is wrong about the old Gommez, they did mine a series of different styles and were considered eclectic in their influences. Go and read some review of their first two albums. I have never seen Gomez play a guitar by throwing a tennis ball at it.

This argument is sad and tired. It is like an old crutch that you rely upon to enable you to "critique" a band.

well i'll continue to disregard Gomez based on a horrid show i saw in 1999 that included a bit of "Not Fade Away" a long time Grateful Dead concert staple.

But it is so comfortable and it helps me get around. Do you really want me to get a new crutch?

I'll have to catch 'em at Lollapalooza as I don't have computer speakers. I'll also be sure to bring a tennis racquet as I'm positive there will be more tennis balls then Wimbledon.

Sounds like they're using the Penn 4s with the Extra Duty Felt.

I know that some people hate that Sonic Youth are darlings of rock critics, I still think they are an incredible band. "Murray Street" was a superb record, and I've heard their new record still shows they have some vitality left. I for one am glad they're around. I saw them in Rome in 2002 and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen, and I had almost written them off after a mediocre performance I saw in 1998. I'm excited to see them again.
