MUSE to open for My Chemical Romance

It really cannot be said enough how screwed up this is. Muse has headlined in the States already, and sold out most of their shows. How in hell can anyone possibly justify having them open for anyone, let alone a shitty band like My Chemical Romance?
How big were those sold-out shows? They haven't been playing the big hockey arenas in the US like they're going to on this tour. They're going to expose their music to tons of people who have never heard them before. It's a great opportunity. It's an odd pairing, but not that odd. Good for them.
When you put it that way, you've got a point.
I read somewhere that MCR opened for Muse on their UK tour dates, and Muse might simply be returning the favor on the US dates. Makes sense, since both bands are bigger in their own countries.
if someone wished to discover Muse, where best to start?
their "Origin of Symmetry" is a damn fine place to start
thanks :)

So I picked up Muse and the singer sounds like Thom Yorke. What's up with that?
Muse likes arpeggios
It just proves their voices are not unique?
Ok, I've been listening to it a lot, and I agree it's pretty damn good. I'm glad I didn't let my initial "they sound like Radiohead" put me off. They're a lot better than Radiohead. In fact, I think a couple of times i've heard songs and thought "Radiohead is actually starting to get good!" and it's been Muse.
I wouldn't go so far as to calling Muse better than Radiohead…that last Muse album was a big letdown…

New to the board but I think that the new MCR cd is the best of the year. Before the backlash, give the cd a listen, I think that you can go to their site for free. I have seen a lot of poeple talk about bands and how much they suck since they are popular and therefore since MTV plays them, they are crap. That is just ridiculous since everyone wants to be the pioneer and be the first to like a band and once five people listen to them, now they are crap again. Well, give them a listen, it is just reassuring to hear bands come out with new songs that are not leftovers from a previous cd.
I am now going to step off the soapbox.

Now you should pick up Absolution, and when you get to a song called "Stockholm Syndrome", crank the volume up to full blast. :)

Also, good to see you didn't fall into the "they're ripping off Radiohead because his voice sounds similar" trap.
Having spent last week in SoCal and listening to KROQ, the world makes a little more sense. My Chemical Romance, or shall I say MyChem, are frickin huge out there. The Black Parade is constantly played and finished #2 on their best of 2006 list (behind Dani California). Its an interesting world out there - MyChem are incredible, Panic! at the Disco aren't a joke, Stadium Arcadium is a masterpiece, and 30 Seconds to Mars are fantastic.

Still a big fan of KROQ as they played Nirvana's Verse Chorus Verse from the No Alternative comp.
Reod, I think I'll check it out. Thanks. :) It's good to know that in between the postings about the Birchmere and Surly Bonds' porn, this remains a good source of music info as well…
so is it safe to say MUSE will not be playing dc/md in support of their latest album?
depends what you mean… they'll be opening for MCR during the second leg of their tour, which will hopefully bring them to DC. i think it's safe to say that Muse will be playing mostly material from their latest album, Black Holes and Revelations.

my boyfriend summed up muse quite accurately for my tastes:

: maybe that was just because they played between interpol and the cure when i saw them

hehehe

: so honestly, jesus christ would've needed to cover stairway to heaven to compete
