I admit I don't know much about them, but I thought this show was really boring. I really wanted to like them, but I just didn't get it.
i just remembered another one:

liars/the apes @ jefferson theater
A Silver Mt. Zion

Edit: Oh and also in March or some shit - Rocky Votolato, William Elliott Whitmore, and Murder by Death all in Portland.

what!? i LOVE the YYYs, the only bummer about that show was that they only played an hour long set, but i met them all after the show and hugged Karen O, so it was forgiven.

disappointments:
1. tv on the radio @ 930
agreed.
Best in no particular order (except for the first one):
1. Girls Against Boys - Touch and Go Fest (I turned thirty that weekend and I have been listening to them for fifteen years!)

2. Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins - 9:30

3. Pretty Girls Make Graves w/Tangiers - Black Cat

4. Wolf Parade - Black Cat

5. Wolfmother - Black Cat

6. Riverboat Gamblers - Rollins Band - 9:30

7. Rancid - all three night at the Black Cat - nice guys, good and varied sets from them. H20 and Theo and The Skyscrapers were also good as openers

8. Detroit Cobras and The Ambitions - Black Cat

Luckily I got to do posters for a bunch of these shows and through that I got out of the house more and seeing some bands I would not have normally seen. Unfortunately, I missed the Gogol Bordello show last night due to a furnance and work issue even though I had free tickets. You can check it out the poster at El Jefe Design.
1.) Neko Case @ 9:30
2.) Wilco @ 9:30
3.) Belle and Sebastian/New Pornographers @ 9:30
4.) Ryan Adams @ Sonar
5.) Editors/Stellastar @ 9:30
6.) Beth Orton/Willy Mason @ 9:30
7.) Band of Horses @ Black Cat
8.) Belle and Sebastian/BSS/Ted Leo @ Merriweather
9.) Cat Power (June) @ 9:30
10.) Drive By Truckers @ 9:30

Kudos to Josh Ritter for a great in-store at Olssons.

Disappointments:
YYYs @ 9:30
Arctic Monkeys @ 9:30
Wolf Parade @ Black Cat
Golden Smog @ 9:30
1) Belle and Sebastian/New Pornos- 9:30

By far. And I went to a good number of shows this year.
I didn't see as much this year as I had hoped, or as in previous years. But out of what I did see, these took the cake…

Sonic Youth/BYOP @ 9:30 - you should walk out of every show that sweaty.
Regina Spektor @ 9:30
Voxtrot @ Georgetown U - small, packed room…lots of dancing…they played everything…
Nickel Creek @ 9:30 - a mandolin solo infused 2+ hour set
OK Go @ Webster Hall - because a private show with one of your favorite bands and only 400 other people really doesn't get much better than that.

And as far as local acts, I was interminably impressed with…

Army of Me
Greenland
Soft Complex
Georgie James
Washington Social Club
Paul Michel
Hotspur
The Evens
Monopoli
The Hard Tomorrows

etc etc etc
X/Rollins Band in Cleveland
Bob Dylan at Patriot Center
Les Claypool and Ween at All Good Festival in WV
Moistboyz in Baltimore
NIN/Bauhaus in Toronto

Disappointments:
Reverend Horton Heat at 9:30 - Wish he would change the set list a bit more. Its been pretty similar for 15 years.
Sonic Youth at 9:30 - I know alot of people liked this, but I was just unhappy that they didn't dip into the back catalog a little more. I think there were three songs played that weren't on the new record.
easily the best - secret machines at 9:30

other highlights: jenny lewis at 9:30, jose gonzalez at black cat, the walkmen at 9:30, m ward at the birchmere, josh ritter's in-store at olsson's, dr dog (opening for clap your hands at 9:30 and opening for the spinto band at the black cat), the raconteurs, wolfmother, the scissor sisters, the who, the flaming lips all at virgin festival

dissapointment - ben folds with BSO at merriweather
My favorite was the 2 nights of Massive attack at the club

Other highlights:
TV on the Radio @ sonar was fun

Deftones @ 930 (March and December) and Nissan (September)

Thievery Corporation @ Virgin Festival (i'm sure the
thursday show @ 930 will be awesome too)

Gnarles Barkley @ Virgin Festival

Prefuse 73 and Edan @ 930

The Roots @ Rams Head Live

Poison the Well/Fall of troy/horse the band@ the ottobar
Set a personal best this year for shows with 47 (48 after TC tomorrow night) and over 100 bands.

Tops
6/24/06 Alejandro Escovedo, Marah (9:30)
7/21/06 Secret Machines (9:30)
8/3/06 Sleater Kinney, French Toast (9:30)
11/28/06 My Morning Jacket (9:30)

Honorable Mention
3/4/06 The Subways (9:30)
3/15/06 The National (Black Cat)
3/29/06 Stellastarr*, Editors (9:30)
4/7/06 The Apparitions, Revival (Iota)

5/20/06 Strokes, Apples in Stereo (Richmond, VA)
6/3/06 The Stills, Rogue Wave (9:30)
11/5/06 Black Keys, Black Angels (9:30)
11/23/06 Brazilian Girls, Chistine Moritz (9:30)

High marks also go to the Virgin Fest and to the Osheaga Fest in Montreal. I'm not usually one for the bigger gigs but both had really good acts and were well organized.
I didn't get to a ton of shows this year with the move across the country, etc. Now that I have a real job, one of my resolutions for 2007 will be to get out to more shows.

Here's my top 5:
1. Jeff Klein/Afterhours/Twilight Singers, June 15, Doug Fir in Portland, OR
2. Pete Yorn, July 29, Doug Fir in Portland, OR
3. Jesse Malin/Ryan Adams with a special appearance by Phil Lesh, April 24, Roseland in Portland, OR
4. Annie Stela/Joseph Arthur, October 13, Doug Fir in Portland, OR
5. Ghosty, November 20, Rotture in Portland, OR

Honorable mentions would go to the other Twilight Singers and Pete Yorn shows I've also seen this year. :D /fangirl

I like this band a lot, have seen them numerous times before. I just didn't click with this show, plus as you mentioned, it was way too short.

It's funny how different people perceive the same show. I thought the Arctic Monkey show was really good – sound, performance, songs – but it seems like most people didn't care for it.

I drove down to The Norva to see the Arctic Monkeys, everything was basically perfect. But i lsitned to the 930 show on NPR and they were WAY more into it than they were at The Norva, the only thing that really stuck out was that Alex opened the show by coming out on stage alone and starting with "Riot Van", ouside of that the 930 show was way better.
