for realz? i have a 30-something set as a kid. a grocery chain had them as a loyalty promotion: with a qualifying purchase, you could get 2 volumes. took a while but eventually we got the whole set. didn't know they still printed encyclopedias.
i got a fancy rain jacket, some tech-fabric underlayers, and some "art" from the kids (needed because my office is so boring, apparently). actually enjoyed having a calm, immediate-family-only christmas… big gatherings with aunts and uncles are chaotic messes. this year we had a leisurely morning unwrapping presents and watching the kids get amped on their new toys. strangely idyllic.

Just kidding about the Funk and Wagnalls. I was hoping to elicit a "so on brand" reaction from Yada or Julian. Though for some reason the Funk and Wagnalls strangely crossed my mind. I think we managed to score a partial grocery store set when i was a kid. I learned everything i know about sex in them, though as i said some volumes were missing.
We tend to have a standing rule in our family that the kid gets all the gifts. She got a Spotify subscription, a robe (which she's very proud of in spite of the SNL skit about the mom only getting a robe for Xmas), and some other stuff. Shit, I don't even remember the other stuff, mom picks it out and i help pay for it. Oh, I remember…she's really into crystals and astrology so she got some stuff related to that. She and I went out to lunch and thrifting, and to some fancier stores, where we picked out a gift for her mom. Our families seemed to send us lots of chocolate. The end.
