but if you take anything about the hives seriously…you kind of miss the point

Exactly. It's not long division here; it's rock n roll. I just really love the fact that, instead of trying to flex indie cred by covering up someone writing their songs, they lie about it. Pretty clever, if you ask me. If nothing else, those guys know how to get in the papers. I missed the last Black Cat show, but when they opened for the (International) Noise Conspiracy a while ago, they completely upstaged them.

Yeah maybe I am being too harsh about the songwriting thing. FWIW I did enjoy the BC show…the songs are good and the band sounds good. I'm going to the 9:30 show not just for the hives for Saharah Hotnights as well.

it's going to be a garage rock night in DC, because the ponys and thee snuff project are at the black cat backstage. the ponys are a kickass new band on in the red, and thee snuff project are one of the best bands in town right now.
i hope i can get out of work early that day to catch THE REIGNING SOUND, who will likely blow away the following two bands. it's greg oblivian's current band, and they play beautiful songs that straddle the line between raw garage soul and byrdsian country-tinged folk-rock. the oblivians were arguably the best garage band in america in the mid '90s.
i'm not impressed by the hives; don't hate 'em, just indifferent. i saw the sahara hotchicks once and they were fun, much better than, say, the donnas. garage fans should have a tough time choosing between the two shows.
