the keyboardist for a great band, scott larned, died yesterday of heart failure. his work as one of the founders of dark star orchestra will be missed by thousands of followers, myself included, right up there. his last two shows were at the state theatre in falls church, and one of the last songs he played on was "it's all over now . . .," by bobby dylan.
thanks for all the wonderful music and memories from your concerts and may the power of the dark star live on to represent the masters of life and war.

The keyboardist for Dark Star Orchestra died?
Isn't that taking the Grateful Dead replication just a tad too far?

except for the fact that he didn't die of a drug overdose.

…or a car crash or a failed liver.
Still, before Jerry died, it was always the keyboard players (Pigpen, Keith Godchaux, Brent) who were dropping.
And I don't mean to make fun of Larned's death. I like the Dead and I think the Dark Star Orchestra is a clever and well-executed enterprise.

his big fat mouth, for one thing. his ability to become a bloody asshole at the drop of a hat, since he is a knight and all, for another. and his music does suck my left ball sac, for thirds.
Actually, I believe it's Dame Elton, not sir. ;)
His early work is brilliant. (like most of em) but what the hell was he thinking with all that "I'm still standing" shite???? Like Rod Stewart, his
very early work is great, then he goes into all that "do you think I'm sexy" nonesense, and now he's resorted to covering show tunes for crying out loud!!!
If you're looking for a piano player to kill off, try Billy Joel.

Read a headline earlier today or last night that Elton is getting married. Never bothered to read the article. Have no clue if it's to a man or a woman. Whichever, you know it's going to be one God-awful circus! Maybe not as bad as Liza's or one of Liz Taylor's latter ones but pretty damn close.

He's marrying a David Furnish, longtime lover.
