my local faves in no order:
hidden hand
canyon before brandan butler left the group
carrion would make the list if they played around here more often
i'm in agreement with ikarus here. the hidden hand are awesome, and canyon was really onto something (but now that brandon butler's out of the band, it ain't gonna be the same).
carrion kicked ass, but they broke up a couple of months ago.
dead meadow are probably my favorite local band, followed by:
thee snuff project
(sounds of) kaleidoscope
fugazi
wooly mammoth
the apes
mikroknytes
orthrelm

I once saw a band called Speedwell at the Blackcat. They seemed pretty solid.
If you're counting bands that are no longer, I'd have to say Dismemberment Plan. Otherwise it would be Tone, Phaser, Trans Am, and Washington Social Club.
i guess i would say wsc but have only seen them once so maybe they were really good that show, I think have seen Dead Meadow more than any other band, local or not, so I could go with them as well
and I really like the carlsonics' album, but have only seen them once as well and it was not as good as the album

Majority Rule, Q and Not U, Fugazi, Exosus, El Guapo, Pietasters, Shakedowns.
I used to like The Urban Verbs…..many moons ago….
Fugazi goes without saying, except for the fact that I just said it…
Jimmie's Chicken Shack is still a rockin' bunch of righteous musicians so I'd have to say them - I'm surprised no one else has. I wish they'd play 9:30 this summer before I go back to school.
- Are Ted Leo & the Pharmacists still considered local? They're pretty sweet live. BOOK 'EM 9:30!
- And yeah, it's real trendy right now to rip Good Charlotte, man. They work hard and I'ma put a vote in for them if no one else think's it's 'cool' to do so. They certainly beat out shitty bands like 'Greenleo'
