Why can't we reply to posts?
huh?
I just replied to you…. ;)
I think Steny meant to say "reply with quotes"…
ah vansmack gets the first gold star for being observant… any other observations to share with the sandbox?
ah thats it the titles are missing…
i assume the board was dead to all for awhile there
I don't think anybody cares (I certainly don't), but for the purposes of thoroughness, the member ratings are gone and so are the hometown's (for those that registered when that was an option).
i think there are some permissions problems as things like being able to reply to posts are turned in the control panel but not working….
Weird.
Some of the posts that disappeared in the corrupted disk space are back though (e.g., the "Do You Read?" thread, which was gone for at least a week until the board was repaired).

i'm sorry to report that avatars are so web 2.0, this is strictly web 1.0 here
I guess I missed where Classic was killed by infopop when they became Groupee.
Threads is alright, but I've seen good and bad with it.
This is impressive though.

kosmo, you do realize that this board would change completely with a search function, right?
Hoya, you do realize the infrastructure of this board can barely handle what it's asked to do currently, which is very little, right?
how would this board improve with a search… i don't see it preventing multiple threads about the hottest arena band playing a club date for instance, they couldn't be bothered using the numerous threads already started on the first page.
alot of the things that could be answered via a search would be better handled by a better FAQ posted in the forum, but…
strictly for archival purposes a search would be nice as there several years of reactions, commentary on shows here.

smackie: i don't, pray tell
kosmo: a search function would dramatically reduce the # of threads, s'all i'm saying

you should have been around here before ticket x-change was created….
A proper search function would take up precious resources like RAM and Processor speed, not to mention what constant indexing would do to the (apparently) already fragile hard drive. It would bring this board to a crawl.
As it is in its current state, the machine that the BB rests on can barely handle the CGI scripts from all the posts without crapping out once a month. Could you imagine asking it perform indexing, queries and the new posts (presumably switching to ASP or PHP)?
Alotting more disk space to handle the foolishness of newbies is a much easier fix for the status quo than buying a new computer and new BB software for a group that simply going to bitch one way or another and never be satisfied.

Then maybe instead of bringing crappy gifts to the party we should each chip-in $20 and buy a computer built after 1999 that can support the load we create.
sounds like hosting is the issue?
