Mid Year Bests

I caught the Leno performance, but didn't see the Letterman performance from last night (although it could have been a rerun of the "Very Loud" performance from a month ago). I'll have to check the TiVo when I get home.

"Comeback" is not my favorite song on the album, but they sounded alright doing it on Leno. Lettermans "Very Loud" performance convinced me to buy the album in lieu of the 3-4 downloaded tracks I had. I'm looking forward to hearing "100 Degrees" live next week. Love that song!

I saw Letterman – it was a repeat from about a month ago with crazy Katie Holmes.

I think I need to sample some S.O.L.s….
Vansmack, that indie compilation album series is great. Have you ever seen another one in that vein; "The Weekender"? Loads of British bands from the late 80's/90's. Probably my favorite compilation album of all time!
Really liking at the moment:
White Stripes
22-20's
Athlete
Chemical Brothers
Gorrilaz
Kaiser Chiefs
Razorlight (I know it's from last year but i only got it a few months ago!)
Coldplay's X and Y is growing on me

BTW, is anyone going to the Embrace concert in August?

I'm going to have to work on the best of 2005 (so far), but I'm pretty sure the Shout Out Louds will be at the top of that list, followed closely by The Mountain Goats.

As for compilations, my sister brought me back Indie Anthems from the UK, and it's quite fun to listen to, depsite the fact that none of it is 2005:

3. Suede - Animal Nitrate
4. Radiohead - Street Spirit
5. Manic Street Preachers - La Tristesse Durera
6. Ash - Girl From Mars

8. Dodgy - Staying Out For The Summer
9. Boo Radleys - Wake Up Boo
10. Cardigans - Love Fool
11. Cast - Fine Time
12. Gene - Olympian
13. Longpigs - on and on
14. Wannadies - You And Me Song
15. Echobelly - Great Things
16. Catatonia - Road Rage
17. Mansun - Wide Open Space
18. Placebo - Pure Morning
19. Shed Seven - Getting Better
20. Supergrass - Going Out

Disc: 2
1. Stone Roses - Love Spreads
2. Charlatans - The Only One I Know
3. Primal Scream - Rocks
4. The Farm - Altogether Now
5. Inspiral Carpets - This Is How It Feels To Be Lonely
6. Soup Dragons - I'm Free
7. Jesus Jones - International Bright Young Things
8. Kula Shaker - Tatva
9. Sleeper - Inbetweener
10. Paul Weller - Changing Man
11. Ocean Colour Scene - Riverboat Song
12. Carter USM - Only Living Boy In New Cross
13. Pop Will Eat Itself - Def-Con One
14. Ned's Atomic Dustbin - Happy
15. The Wonder Stuff - Circlesquare

Nice collection of songs.

Thanks. I'll be sure to let my sister know that you all approve of her choice of gift. Of course my instructions to her were to bring me back some new indie music and this is what I got. I'm not complaining - I do enjoy the mix - but it's hardly new.

I did see the compilation at Tower Records over the weekend, selling for about $40 though. That's a bit steep.

you can add The Posies - "Every Kind of Light" to the list… it serves as the lost record between "Dear 23" and "Frosting on the Beater"

It should arrive any day now…Fitting between those two albums should ensure some love from me….
I guess me saying the new System Of A Down cd would not be a very popular choice.
tied for #10 best reviewed album of the year on metacritic.

Give it a couple of listens. It had me on the second time around. "Cigaro" is by far my favorite followed by "B.Y.O.B". But it really is a good cd from start to finish. No boring spots.
hey hammerexile, that weekender comp is pretty good, I could have done without the Jesus Jones though. My only question is why didnt' they include to the song Weekender by Flowered Up.

Figures, I actually love that Jesus Jones song.
The new Stellastarr* album will be out this summer and it will stomp all over everything else this year.
