Anybody watch this? How cliched was it that the black guy did a Living Color cover?

What if that singer was inspired by Living Color to sing in a rock n' roll band, it's only fitting then…

This was his former band. Doesn't sound like he was influenced by Living Color. And I bet he grew his mohawk especially for tv.
Dakota Moon is an unusual urban R&B group, one that's equally influenced by Boyz II Men and '70s soft rock, such as Eric Clapton and James Taylor. The group is comprised of Ty Taylor (guitar, vocals), Ray Artis (bass, vocals), Malloy (percussion, vocals), and Joe Dean (guitar, vocals). Taylor and Artis were New York natives; Malloy and Joe Dean hailed from California. The quartet met at a recording session in Los Angeles for producers Andrew Logan and Mike More. The musicians had such a chemistry that they decided to form a band. Taylor and Artis moved to Los Angeles, and Dakota Moon began to regularly play on the L.A. club circuit. Eventually, the head of Elektra Records, Sylvia Rhone, spotted the group in concert. Impressed, she offered the group a contract and they accepted. Before they made their debut album, they toured as Tina Turner's opening act in 1997. By the end of the year, they had recorded their debut with producers Logan and More. The resulting record, entitled Dakota Moon, was released in April 1998.

so why don't you spend money and hire a polling firm and determine if it was indeed cliched… i'm suspecting most people wont care… as does the rest of the board.

Jeez, what, am I not allowed to make comments any more? This board is filled with people making cliched comments pumping up mediocre peon bands that only the person posting could possibly love.

Do you want me to setup a poll and find out what the board thinks?
and i'm sorry if i post about medicore peon bands all of the time… but the voices inside my head all agree they are great and should be enjoyed by all.
besides it must be ok for a band to start out as a novelty act and then become approved by you….

This show will be filled with cliches. Imagine actually wanting to be the lead singer of such a lame band.

Who was is on this board that said that train wrecks are not to be missed? It's more fun to watch something horribly lame and make fun of it than listen to/watch the mediocrity of most indie rock/Britpop/alt-country/etc bands.
It's sort of like the guy who went to see Fantastic Four, even though he knew it was going to suck. Except that I'm not giving anyone $9 for the privilege to watch something crappy.

I was watching that too. Didn't want to miss great Canadian slugger Jason Bay's killer performance.

Instead, you were breaking your rule about no DC shows.
