i was actually thinking about this too…
The Stone Roses are at the top of my list. Seeing as Squire was my fav guitarist at one point, it would be great to hear him backed by that stellar bass/drum combo live. History has proven that Ian can't sing for shite live anyways. Besides, Ian has the potential for causing serious problems for the group…
Part of my me would like to hear Marr/Rourke/Joyce do Smiths stuff instrumental, if only because like the Stone Roses the music was a big part of the appeal for me. Squire actually replaced Marr as my fav guitarist. Big problem with this idea, is the audience would feel the need to sing along loudly thus ruining it…
The Clash without Strummer probably wouldn't work, but Mick did sing lead on some of great songs. Maybe a B.A.D./Clash hybrid thing would work and the Mescalaros could open up.
The Jam is a tough call as well, Paul and Bruce with a new drummer could work.
In the end its as much about the songs as it is the lineup… and if the lineup is not doing embarrassing things with the songs it has the potential for a worthy show.
