LOST

Anyone psyched? My wife and I burned through both seasons on DVD in preparation.

Speaking of which, did anyone check out the Lost Connections on the DVD? Most of them we already knew, but one or two surprised me. And a few of the little hidden secrets have given us some new theories…

we're looking forward to it and have friends coming over to watch BUT I hope its an improvement over season 2 which I found dissapointing

wow season 2 was dissapointing. i got hooked off the last show of the 1st season, and never got a chance to go back to catch up, but def ready for this. i told everyone that i might as well be dead from the hours 9-10. i was hoping for a 2 hour show.

Interesting…I thought season 2 was just as strong as the first. Granted, it don't have as much "element of surprise" intrigue that the first season did, but I think the deepening connections between the characters and mysteries of the Others made it just as addicting.

I don't watch much television (too cheap for cable and our rabbit ears dont' pick up much), but this time of year is always painful. We've got a solid hour each night that is must see for us, especially once Fox starts into 24.

Speaking of which, my biggest Lost issue is the amount of gaps they have between episodes. I heard that this season is non-stop like 24, but I refuse to read any articles for fear of learning spoilers. Anyone know if that's true?

haven't been reading articles either but I think I recall something about maybe the scheduling being a 10 week run, a 10 week break and a 10 week run, or something like that

Well, that's a ton better then 3 episodes then a 3 week break than 3 episodes than a 3 week break, then…

And I loved season 2! I don't understand why American tv watchers always want immediate answers to everything. I like all the questions looming over the show.

Falling of my radar is not hard to do, but Lost has fallen of Smackette's TiVo season pass, and that's saying a lot about a show.

We really enjoyed season 2 and season 1.

Can't wait for tonight.

What were the Lost Connections that suprised you?

I think it says more about Smackette than the show.

What percentage of their initial audience have they "lost"?

it would be fine if the questions werent made up as they went, i have always had that feeling with the show so have never really cared for it

While I dont' doubt this is the case to some degree, I don't see why this is a problem. If they had planned every bit of this show throughtout X amount of seasons, that leaves almost no ability to adapt at all.

doesnt have to be planned out exactly, but I get the sense that the writers change their mind every few episodes about what is actually happening, are clues really clues if what they are clueing you into ends up being changed 2 episodes later

This article reminds me of a friend of mine. He told me recently that he really likes Lost except for the storyline about the Others. Which seems odd to me, since the Others were about 75% of the conflict on the show.

I can understand not liking the show because you don't like mysteries or sci-fi themed shows or because it's a little too much for your tastes. But to say you loved the show before it became what it has is odd; there were monsters and sci-fi overtones since episode one.

Of course, I am a uber-fan, so maybe that's why I'm so defensive ;)

I agree. In the first season it appeared to my trained television eye that they were surprised by their success, so much so that the went a completely different route with a super-natural story line that had no foundation laid for it.

Smackette and I disagreed about this but as the story lines have continued on, she has agreed that the writing appears panicked at times and they go off on tangents without laying a foundation, much like the article says. I left half way through season one, she left half way through season two.

JJ Abrams did the same thing with Alias, which we loved, owned the first three seasons on DVD, barely finished the fourth and couldn't even finish the fifth season.

nice article that sums up my feelings on the show fairly well

in defense of dragging out storylines and not really knowing where things are going, we all saw what happened to "twin peaks" when they resolved their main issue…

maybe season 2 wasn't as good as season 1 and it disappointed at times, but there's still no hour of tv i look forward to more, at that includes when "24" comes back.

Do you think they are going to address the issue of the 14 pubic balls this year?

I think that's what it comes down to. Though I do scratch my head sometimes with the seemingly ever changing direction of the story line, I still think it's the best show on TV
