i ALWAYS tip $1. unless bartender is an ass or negligently slow.
how much do u TIP per drink?
Likewise. Though if the bartender is a real jerk, I usually give a buck for every other beer.
Buck a drink, always. And if I order a bunch, I don't short the tip…
Always $1/drink. But if the bartender hooks me up like the Black Cat bartender with a tall strong drink, I'll tip more since I won't have to come back to the bar as often as I normally would.
I left my answer on the other thread not knowing this one was created.

if the bartender sucks, that $1 is in the form of a loonie.

$1 per drink, even in bad service. Been there done that, and most times it's not the bartenders fault.
More if I get amazing service or if she's a hot bartender.

$4 a drink.
i must admit, i practice the "law of diminishing tips" at times. for example:
1 drink - $1
2 drinks - $2
if 3 drinks comes to $17.50…i'll drop the $20 and clear out of there.

same thing but pertaining to cabfare:
DC cabs went up again. $9.10 is the price now for 1 passenger and 2 zones travelled.
do you give $11 or leave a $.90 tip?

generally i run tabs though, as its just easier.
and then do a 20-25%
20% on a tab
i hate paying cash unless i'm drinking fewer than 4 beers. usually $1 a beer

Easiest way for you to take care of your bartender and get good service AND get remembered the next time is to start a tab and get the bartender's name. Please and thank you also are notable.

For $3.35 an hour? Not on your life, if you like doing things like paying bills.
Okay, let me try to better explain myself.
One of my pet peeves is wait/bar staff who just expect a tip and so give lousy service.
If bar tenders (and wait staff for that matter) actually did their jobs in such a way that they tried to actually earn a good tip by giving good service to every customer, instead of expecting tips so make no effort, they wouldn't have to pick and choose their favourite punters to serve. Having said that I understand that some are just tight-wads, but that goes with the job I'm afraid.
And for the record, I am a good tipper…well I used to be, we don't need to tip in Ireland because bar-staff get paid a living wage.
