Ween and Wilco...

back to back in June… doesn't get much better than that.
not having wilco would make it much better.
whatever you say… they're an amazing band.

I agree
I can understand why some people might think Wilco was just average, or boring, or overrated.

But what I don't understand is why some people so actively dislike them. I mean, their music is not so "out there" that it could cause repulsion, nor is it so "mainstream" that it could cause indie types to be repulsed.

What gives? What is it that makes some people hate Wilco so much? Their commercial success?

:D

I kid…can't disparage folks digging them, maybe the fervor with which they do so, but… ;)

balls, I don't hate Wilco – I think it's the aformentioned fervor of fans that cause non-fans to get more vehement. Every time I mention I'm not a fan, I get back, "You need to listen to [insert fave wilco album title here]" It can drive me crazy….can't I just not be a fan?
No. You should really check out Being There.

Everyone knows Summer Teeth is the best mix of their alt-country roots and the experimentation they've playing with now.

Plus, check out God Ween Satan.

I think Uncle Tupelo's Anodyne is the best Jeff Tweedy related album.

I think for me, no Wilco album quite is "brilliant". I would only give that tag to 10-15 or so albums by anyone, ever. But they are all consistently very good.
Summer Teeth is probably my least favorite, the only thing worse would probably be an album full of songs like Kamera.
Really? I always thought that AM was considered to be their crappy one.
You Fucked Up is a confidence boosting break up song. I think everyone should have that at the ready.

No, that's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Though it's way better than crappy.

Wilco has a great sound and a lot of great tunes but they tend to get mired in melancholia. I tried to watch their performance on Austin City Limits but couldn't hang with it, too gloomy
Finally, hasn't it been like 3 years since Ween came around, or did I just miss them at some point?
i remember when i had front row seats at "dar" to see wilco being opened up by sonic youth, last year. sonic youth rocked the place and i was the only one standing up; having a hell of a good time. everyone else just sat there like a folk implosion video waiting to happen, thinking "who does this sonic tooth band think they are?" then when wilco comes out, the place goes lazy crazy. i sit through three or four songs and realize that this band's sound is rock lite; sort of a r.e.m. meets pearl jam meets brooks and dunn. i left my front row seat behind after song five. but back to the almighty boognish known as WEEN. the place to see them this summer (other that 9:30, of cource)will definetly be bonaroo at the "late night tent". lord only knows what they'll pull out there.
Hopefully they'll pull you away from here, never to return.
:D

I didn't go to the DAR show, but a friend who had gone to both 9:30 club shows (which I thought were excellent) as well as the DAR show said the latter show wasn't as good. Which isn't surprising. It's DAR. DAR DAR DAR. Nice looking building, though.
I think I've mentioned this on other threads but as someone who's been seeing Wilco live for a good 6/7 years now, I think their live show has decreased in overall enjoyment as it becomes more and more of an 'event', now that they're and 'important' band

didn't see the DAR show - I remember tix being too expensive for me to justify it
