Bloc Party

Maybe its the indie rocker mentality that has developed in me but I intentionally skipped the first wave of the Bloc Party hype out of spite. Well, I recently got the album and am now hooked. Its phenomenal. One of the best albums of the year, IMO.
Anyway, because of my stubbornness I missed them @ Black Cat and 930. They just announced some dates but DC aint on em. Question. Is it worth the trip up to NYC to catch them @ Roseland Ballroom? (I have a place to stay, so that wouldnt be a big deal) Ive heard theyre terrific live, but I thought I would tap into the board's wealth of knowledge to see if its worth it.
What do y'all think?
09-08 Boston, MA - Avalon Ballroom *
09-09 New York, NY - Roseland Ballroom *
09-10 Philadelphia, PA - Electric Factory *
09-12 Toronto, Ontario - The Docks *

09-14 Chicago, IL - Congress Theatre *
09-16 Denver, CO - Fillmore Auditorium *
09-20 Los Angeles, CA - Hollywood Palladium *
09-21 San Francisco, CA - Warfield Theatre *
09-22 San Francisco, CA - Warfield Theatre *
09-24 Austin, TX - Austin City Limits
09-26 Atlanta, GA - Tabernacle

they're a really fun live band, but don't expect a note-for-note recount of the album … they're rough and speed up their sound, which i enjoyed … i really liked the black cat show, didn't see them at 930, but i remember people being a bit dissapointed with that one.
i'd expect a packed house.

Their Black Cat show was great, and the 9:30 Club show was really good. If you really like the album, I think you won't be disappointed. Are you a person that normally travels for shows? I would do it, but I'll hop up to NY for several bands…and cuz I got cool ass friends up there.

Thanks Hoya…You making it out to the Smiths shindig tonight? Im thinking about making it up there.
1/2 because they are one of my favorite bands and the other 1/2 to witness the freak, star trekkish Smiths/Morrissey subculture in full effect. Should be a good time.

I'll be the most normal (ie, not Smith-y) looking person there, per usual. Medusa and Strange know me, so if you introduce yourselves the them, they may extend the favor…

Black Cat show was fantastic, the 9:30 show was good, but the crowd was less into it. Seeing them in New York should be great because I would expect them to have a lot of die hard fans up that way. At the BC the crowd was ecstatic to be seeing the band, and the band in turn fed off of that energy, making for a hell of a show. I'm hoping Bloc party don't burn out though, they've been touring non stop for a good part of a year now, and they've still got nearly 4 straight months left to go.

Bloc Party will release the remix CD, Silent Alarm Remixed, on September 13th. The album features Four Tet, Death From Above 1979, Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, M83 and Whitey reworking the tracks off the band's debut.

ha. I dont know how many people in my group would be up for a Smiths party. My reputation is kind of shot for awhile as I promised them a kick ass band @ the Walkmen show and instead we basically crashed some high school prom.

i did the same exact thing.
had heard a couple of tracks off their album earlier in the spring, and labeled them as another one of these "overhyped hipster generic indie punk" (which of course there has been an influx of lately…) blah blah blah.
i got the album a couple of weeks ago though, and it's so infectious and solid…i can't get enough.
their live shows look great though.
if i had the ability; i'd definitely head up to new york…
…and, hah! it WAS like a high school prom! + more pushing.

Yeah, M83 is remixing "Pioneers". Can't wait to hear that…

I'm doing the same thing for Kaiser Chiefs tonight. I don't have their cd, but I've heard a few tracks. I'm just not buyin it. Am I gonna regret missing tonight's show?

I listened to their full album online, and I heard some real peaks and valleys. And honestly, I have not heard regular paper rave over the album much, whereas the Bloc Party disc gets a lot of feedback like you see above – solid album. I'm skipping K.C. tonight as well…

Um its already out. Actually a lot of these remixes were b-sides on the EPs and singles already. The Four Tet, Mogwai, and M83 remixes were bonus tracks on the Japanese edition of Silent Alarm.

Well if it's a reliable guage, Kaiser Chiefs get 77 on metacritic, versus 81 for Bloc Party, 79 for the new Teenage Fanclub, 68 for the latest Tegan & Sara, and 63 for Dressy Bessy's most recent.

Well Wedding Crashers got a 64 on metacritic, and about a 98 on the 9:30 chatboard.

I agree with all but the Kaiser review…as is always the case with music, I just don't get about half the Kaiser Chiefs albums. But there are some outstanding tracks on it.

Um, I'm not paying $30+ for a few remixes. And I can't seem to find the track online w/o having to download the whole album. I don't mess with singles and imports, unless of course, it's Radiohead…
