Kraftwerk!

Geez H, people. Is it too much to answer a simple question without looking like this is an audition for a stand up comedian??

yeah, the set was the same, but some songs were longer/shorter tonight.
What amazing two hours which just flew by, loads of fantastic and never dull sounds emerging from the soundsytem. My favorite songs were "Chrono" the nod back to Detroit, the tweaked version of "Pocket Calculator" and "Radioactivity" which just proves how wack most of the current electronic music is. Beats more block rockin' then even the Chemical Brothers.

Wish I could have cloned myself last night. Was situtanted in the balcony near the stage in order to get a peek at what was going on behind the workstations, but left quickly when couldn't see what the video screens were showing. Ended up near the sound booth for the evening…

Aren't these guys due for a boxset treatment soon? My ex took most of my Kraftwerk with her… And somewhere the Electrifying Mojo continues to throw down.
righteous show.

favorites were vitamin, the model, robots, man machine.

definitely a privilege to have seen these guys.

i had a great time and have seen them from a few angles now. i couldn't get into the tent at coachella (had to watch from outside), was 4th row at miami, 2 nights ago i was on the balcony and last night i was dead center about halfway back on the floor.. they were all great, but miami was still the best.

they've had "the catalogue" listed on their website for over a year now, but there's no indication of when it's supposed to come out. the stuff i read about it last year was that it was supposed to be an 8CD/LP box set… but there's been no indication of when it'll be out..
meantime, 'minimum maximum' comes out next week, according to what i've seen online.

>>>I've been listening to "Minimum/Maximum for a couple weeks now and the sound quality is superb…….it's a must have when it hits the streets!……I can't wait for the double disc DVD which may be later in the summer…..

Ditto for me…was so hyped to see them last night and they definitely didn't disappoint. highlights for me were the model, TEE, calculator, radioactivity and man machine…wish they had played showroom dummies tho.
METAL ON METAL!! God that song was unreal. The foundation for industrial music. And Trans Europe Express practically has hip-hop beats…who would have thought 4 dudes from Germany standing behind their keyboards could have such a profound impact on music.
Went there last night and was amazed! I thought after so many years (decades?) their music might not cut it anymore – but boy was I wrong!

Kraftwerk: Museum Pieces

Post
Wednesday, June 1, 2005; C03

Having released little new material in the past 20 years, the members of Kraftwerk are now essentially the curators of a museum of their own work.

But group founders Ralf Hutter and Florian Schneider don't just periodically dust the exhibits. They've undertaken massive renovations, beginning with 1991's "The Mix," an album of remade classics, and including a painstaking conversion from analog to digital technology. Monday night at a packed 9:30 club, the influential Duesseldorf quartet brought new sounds and images to such futuristic oldies as "The Man-Machine."

As at most techno-pop performances, most of the music was pre-programmed. Some of the vocals were live, but significant deviations from the script would have derailed the tightly coordinated revue. Such songs as "Tour de France" were linked with pertinent video footage, and the elementary lyrics (in German, English and a smattering of French and Russian) to tunes such as the anti-nuke "Radioactivity" flashed on the screen behind the laptop-punching performers.

Kraftwerk has added harder, more metallic beats to many of its songs, updating its bleeps and swooshes to fit mid-'90s styles such as Berlin tekno and London drum-'n'-bass. Yet the group's machine-mad vision seemed largely nostalgic: Abstract videos suggested early-20th-century artists such as Mondrian and the Soviet Constructivists, while "Autobahn" and "Trans Europe Express" were illustrated by images of gleaming but antiquated cars and trains. By the time the band unveiled its trademark performing robots – for the second of the two-hour show's three encores – it seemed that Hutter and Schneider might be well advised to hire outside consultants for their modernization program. Kraftwerk is still lively and stylish but seemed a little quaint.

yeah, there was a similar review in the miami paper after the show last year.

it seems to me that the people reviewing the shows just don't 'get it'.

I have to disagree with Bags here:

I think Kraftwerk managed in an admirable way to transport classic recordings into a new millium. The video show was state of the art and synced to the music all the time. The sounds have been all transferred to a digital format resulting in an amazing sonic landscape previously unheard.

The "oldtimers" have proved once again to be on top of their game!

It's not Bags you disagree with, it's Mark Jenkins. I disagree with him too…his use of the word quaint seems totally wrong to me.
