i don't think that $75 is that much above face value plus service charges for two tickets. i can't remember how much the tickets i bought the day they went on sale cost, though.

face value plus service charges = $58.50. $75 ain't bad if you really want to go.

It sucks, you have to look at from a supply and demand point of view. If you're going to point the finger, point it to the people who actually BUY the tickets. I'm not saying what the scalpers do is alright, it sucks, I know (infact, I wanted to see Spoon but didn't get a ticket in time) but if they know people are willing and able to shell out that much money, they're going to be doing it no matter what you tell them. (and I'm speaking very broadly, not just about this show in specific)

This may sound shitty, and I really hate saying it…but I don't ever remember this existing.

Actually, it happens here all the time. Tickets, even to sold out shows, are offered at face and people go out of their way to meet up and make the exchange. I got a last minute Bloc Party ticket for the suprising sellout in April at Black Cat, and the seller wouldn't take more than face even though I offered it right off the bat…
In fact, I've had board members know I'm looking for a ticket, and find me one! (And vice versa…)
