I saw the Brides the night before the DC show up in NYC. It was amazing, at a place smaller than the Black Cat and possibly the best sound system I've ever heard. I'll echo the sentiments about DOLL, they couldn't hold a candle to the Brides, who simply blew the roof off the joint.

Houston St. The music room is separated from the bar by a door, so you can enjoy a beer and conversation in case you're not interested in the band on stage (DOLL I'm looking in your direction). There's also a small bar in the music room where you order and the beers are passed through a window from the main bar. It was a good set up, and the drink prices were decent for NYC, which isn't saying much.
